I finally got to talk to Laura for a bit. She seems to be doing okay for now... as well as one could expect with this kind of a shocker. She was totally convinced that it was not going to roll this way. She has another Dr. appointment tomorrow and will have a little better info on what they see as next steps.
Her big concern right now is that they are going to want to remove the one implant to see what is going on behind it. Said she is not interested in having her implants out because she doesn't want to be able to use her hooters as a wrap skirt. Yep... I laughed right out loud about that.
She is going to call me tomorrow, and will likely push out her visit until Saturday. Just going to play that one by ear.

I'm so happy to hear the positive news on Pambo's surgery and so sorry to hear of your sisters diagnosis
It is good that the cancer has been detected in it's early stages. As you said, it is very treatable and with faith a positive attitude, she will be a survivor
Thoughts and prayers for all of you.

Pambo flips me the finger every time I tell her that she is doing well. Even called me a lying f-er a couple times. She's still got a rockin headache as you can imagine and has had intermittent bouts of nausea. I'd suppose it is easy for me to say that it is all good given that this is all expected... not so easy for her to do.
Thanks everybody for the positive thought and prayers for both Pambo and Laura. Its a long haul for both of them, but I'm sure everybody is going to be okay.

In a more personal side note, I will be very happy when I no longer have to sit in hospital waiting room chairs or these infernal wooden folding chairs in the ICU. Not comfortable!

There is the one good chair, but Pambo is sitting in it right now. They got her up out of the bed and had her move around a bit. Pre-req to getting moved to a regular room. She's doing a little better now. Not quite so pale and actually stayed awake for a bit talking with us, cracked a few jokes even.
My sister is on her way here now. She decided to not go to work today and her doctor appointment got rescheduled. She says she feels she needs a little shopping therapy, so I guess we are going to go find a mall in a bit.

So, here is the latest: Pambo was released from the hospital earlier today. We got her back here to the hotel around 6 PM. Right now she is sleeping, so that is good. She looks and sounds a lot better than she did these last few days, but it is still too early to tell how well the surgery worked. The nerve was really irritated so it will take a bit for it to normalize. She did say the headache is a little better.
On the Laura front, she took yesterday off work and decided that she wanted to come hang out with me. We went and got some dinner then went shopping for a while. After that, she told me she just wanted to go get drunk, so I figured she deserved that much. We got her a room here at the hotel and went to the bar. Much to our chagrin, it was karaoke night, and it was as bad as we suspected it might be. However, by time some guy got around to trying to do Bad, Bad Leroy Brown and he only came up with about 1/3 of the words, we could take it no more.... decided to help him out. Yep... this was several drinks into the evening. Very quickly, we became the life of the party. People were actually requesting us to be their back-up singers. There was much singing and dancing. It was GREAT. My brother in law got there just in time for the Motown segment of the show. He was stunned. Later, he thanked me for getting her out of her funk for a while. Hey... least I can do. Tragically, there is a downside to such merriment... the next day pukey hang over. BOTH of us. I told her I was sorry about that, but she laughed and said she had a great time so she figured it was worth it.

She is still having a fair amount of pain, which is not unexpected, but is actually doing much better. I believe she gets the staples out on Monday. She was actually going to try to drive up here to the campus today to get her phone issues sorted out prior to her transition to Ericsson... which is going to be delayed until she comes back from short term disability.

YAY! Pambo gets the staples out of her head today, or as I call it "removing the Frankenscalp." She told me yesterday that her pain level was much improved. More like a 4 now as opposed to an 8.

Oh dang... Yes! Pambo was released back to work on Monday. For the most part, the pain has been down in the 1-3 end of the spectrum, which is a vast improvement. She did report a spike to around 6 on Tuesday after making her 9th phone call on the same issue. What could possibly make that happen you might ask... well, apparently Sprint was not expecting her to return until much later this month, however when she spoke with HR on Monday, they promptly terminated her as a Sprint employee so that she could be moved over to Ericsson with the rest of us. Ericsson however, didn't get the word. Since about 10AM on Monday, Pam has technically been unemployed. Her access to her Sprint e-mail and various other systems went down on Monday. Her building access card got shut down on Tuesday. She IM'd me a little while ago from her personal PC to tell me she was going to try to log in again, but nothing since and I don't see her logged in on the company IM.
As of yesterday, it seems that the plan is to get this resolved by next week. For the most part, it is just kind of annoying yet amusing. The really bad part is her Sprint medical / prescription insurance has also been terminated and her Ericsson benefits of course have not started.

Yay! I'm so glad to hear that she's feeling better. Hopefully Sprint and Ericsson can pull their heads out of their- er, I mean figure it all out soon.
It is all pretty silly. I guess I missed all that business transpiring for me because it went down over a weekend and I don't think I logged into work at all during that time frame.
