ACORN Fail

ACORN is back in the news . . . well, Fox news. The mainstream news is still too scared to touch it.

ACORN gets tax payer money. OUR MONEY.

ACORN is on the list to get stimulus money. OUR MONEY. LOTS of our money.

This is clearly a sting, but that shouldn't matter.

A couple dressed as a prostitute and a pimp went to ACORN and asked if they could get help with getting money to open their prostitution business which would include bringing in 13 14-15 year old illegal immigrant girls to perform as prostitutes. They made it very clear what they were doing and these two ACORN workers give them advice and help them to do tax fraud and use our money to open an illegal brothel.

Edit to add: ACORN has reportedly fired these two women but have not made a formal response yet. The point being they did not claim that this was a fake video. They fired these two women, so they must have indeed been ACORN employees.

If these videos do not stir you, please check your pulse.

I'll tell ya. Democrat, Republican or Independent this should scare you.

I think the thing I find the scariest about it is how these women didn't bat an eye no matter how far the situation went.

Prostitution? No problem.

Illegal Immigrants brought in to be prostitutes? No problem.

The immigrants are underage children? No problem.

It seemed to me these women had seen it all before. Just another day at the Acorn offices.

I just read a story that there's a second video from the same couple shot in an entirely different ACORN office, in an entirely different city. I'm at work, so I don't feel that I can watch either video right now, so I'm withholding judgment. But I do plan to watch both videos.

Can you send me the link?  I'd be curious to see it too.

I've heard that ACORN has claimed this couple has gone to several locations and tried this, which certainly would help ACORN'S case.  But in the end the fact the Baltimore, MD Acorn office failed miserably would still be an issue that needed to be dealt with.

I did find a story on CNN now.

ACORN is saying that these two tried this in multiple other offices and were turned away which (if true) will help them say this was just two problem employees.

It will still be interesting to see if this is enough to get people's attention.

Thanks Mz.

There is a link in that story to the other video. Yes, they are getting the same kind of advice from the DC ACORN office too.

Wow.

Wow! I thought the second video was going to be of Acorn telling them they couldn't do that.

Instead it's a whole other branch telling them the SAME thing! Lie about what you do to get the house.

Now they've got TWO locations assisting them in defrauding the bank and the government!

So much for ACORN's statement that the first one was an isolated case.

If this does not cause deep investigations into ACORN, then the problems we have in this country extend way further up the food chain than we even know.

Can someone tell me more about ACORN? As you would expect, their website doesn't give me the information I'm looking for. Are they entirely federally funded? Or are they a nonprofit that sometimes receives federal grants?

I don't know how they are set up . . . that is a good question though.

Yesterday Beck said that he had an even bigger ACORN under cover tape to show today. I was just on his website and saw some teaser info. It looks like in another ACORN office, while trying to help a prostitute and pimp get their government loan, the ACORN worker confesses that she killed her husband because he was abusing her.

ACORN is still standing on the claim that these recordings are edited and fake . . . so I guess they fired the employees involved for being bad actors?

omfg.gif Admitted to homicide?!?!? And how does THAT come up in conversation at the office?

It sounds like it came up through the hooker talk. The story is here. The video will be on Beck at 4:00pm CDT on FoxNews.

ACORN has a statement up on their website about all these videos.  It's quite defensive and immature, it doesn't really help their case any.

I still haven't figured out how they're funded.  They're not a not for profit, and they're not a governmental organization.  I checked the BBB, and they're listed as an "association."  I'm not sure what that means.  At first I thought maybe they were a political association, so I compared their listing to MoveOn.org (they seem similar), but MoveOn.org is listed as a not for profit.  So I don't see what taxpayer money they're getting, unless they've applied for and received a grant in the past.

At any rate, what they're accused of doing is still illegal.

I also looked at their letter to Fox (on the same page as their statement).  They claim that the questions are voiceovers, that they are different from the original questions asked.  I'll keep that in mind when I watch the videos.

Man, I hate our government, it makes things needlessly complicated. ACORN is a non profit, but instead of being a 501c3 (typical charity, tax deductible donation), they are a 501c4, so they have different rules. One is that they can lobby to the government. Another is that I can't find the information on them that I can for 501c3s, like the breakdown of their donations and how much goes to their cause. I found an old annual report, but if it gives that information, it's not in a clear enough format that I can understand it.

At any rate, the reason I'm looking at this, is that yes, they may have received taxpayer money, but they likely had to apply for grants just like any other charity. They do foreclosure stuff, so it seems natural that they would apply for related grants created in the stimulus bill.

That doesn't mean that what they're accused of doing isn't illegal. This is something that could definitely get their 501c4 status revoked.

I thought it should be a little clearer exactly HOW these people were getting our money.

I'd think I could find a few other things to talk to a hooker about other than killing somebody. weirdface.gif I'd be busy asking the things inquiring minds would want to know like "Is there anybody you say 'not even for a million dollars!' to?" or "So do you go with the 'whatever's clever' idea or do you have rules?"

I finally got to watch the first 2 videos. Man, tax fraud and illegal advice (could even be charged as an accomplice) up the wazzoo! They're claim that the questions were voiceovers (his voice does seem a lot clearer, but that could be because he's closer to the mic) doesn't really make the answers any less criminal. They say the word "prostitution" themselves. And the tax lady is going to get fined for thousands of dollars. They changed the tax law last year, now they can sue the person giving the illegal information. I think it's $10,000 per return.

I'll stop there, there's so much illegal information in the tax stuff, I should submit this to the people that make the training materials for an example on what not to do.

I don't like that they edited the clips. It's kind of annoying to watch, and it makes it seem more plausible that they've spun it to make them sound worse. Although in this case, I think those two ACORN workers incriminated themselves enough without any need to spin anything.

And the DC video is just more of the same type of stuff. Again, it doesn't matter if the questions were overdubbed, the things the workers were saying are just plain illegal.

I'm sure they have the unedited recordings to provide as evidence if needed, but I thought the same thing . . . they don't need to tell us what is being said, just let it run as it was recorded so we won't even question if it was edited.

In this latest one, there is some footage of Hannah talking. You can see it really is her talking. The words match her mouth and the lady answers her question.

ACORN should have blamed this on a few employees hungry for their commissions rather than taking the "its fake" route they did. Now they will have an even bigger hole to dig out of by trying to cover it up.

MZ,

I'm not aware of how much taxpayer money they've received in the past, but I know it's a substantial amount.

More importantly they were due to get millions as part of the stimulus plan. They also get government contracts (like the census work they were supposed to do before they were dropped in light of this new information).

For me, the bigger concern is that Obama has tied himself to ACORN since the campaign trail and has told them and other organizations that they will have a voice in his administration.

During the election they were caught and admitted to massive voter fraud (again, blaming it on the individual "bad apples" instead of admitting it was part of their mission statement).

Maybe I'm a fool, but I have a hard time believing Obama was completely unaware of how this place operated. I'm growing increasingly concerned about the people Obama has surrounded himself with in the past and still does. Bill Ayres, Van Jones, Acorn, Jeremiah Wright. It all adds up in my mind to someone who seems to gravitate towards radicals.

Somehow I knew this would all come around to Obama.

Which is my point. I never trust media generalizations. If they're telling me a substantial amount is being used, I want to know what that amount is and where it's coming from.

We have no way of knowing how much Obama knew of them when he gave his support. You believe he knew, personally I believe he wouldn't know. ACORN claims they help low income families, especially minorities, and Obama says he wants to help low income families. I don't think it's much different than people who bought clothing brands that were made by slave labor. They like the label it gives them, but they don't put much thought into how it was made. (I'm not saying that's right, especially in the case of charities, but most people don't look into what they're putting money towards.)

And I'm not a loyal Obama supporter, but in this case, I think it's propaganda to tie him to this.

Hey, I'm in NO WAY suggesting that Obama be put under the microscope based on this.

This doesn't all "come around" to him.  It's just one more piece of who the man is that disturbs me.  Maybe he was gloriously unaware that so many of the people around him had radical viewpoints and had performed illegal actions.  Maybe he sat in Jeremiah Wrights church for years and years and never absorbed any of the anti-America BS the guy was preaching.  Maybe he had no idea Acorn was run by an embezzler and has no idea that the very same embezzler now works with him to form his health care program, maybe he has no idea ACORN was involved in voter fraud, maybe, maybe, maybe.

But maybe the President of the United States shouldn't be surrounded by so many questionable characters either.

But he's not the issue here.

Do I like Barrack Obama?  No.  I do not.  I believe his political views are a very bad thing for this country.  That's my opinion.  We've all got a right to an opinion in this country for now.

The issue is our tax dollars going to in any way fund an organization that is as corrupt as Acorn is.  All the evidence is there, and it's been there for a LONG time.  No one in the liberal media wanted to cover it because they know it can create a controversy for the ones who have supported this group.

As Americans, Liberal, Conservative, whatever, this should concern all of us.

I was happy to hear that the Catholic Church has stopped all donations to ACORN, they have given over 7 million dollars to it in the past.  They've lost the contract to be part of the US Census as well now.

People are finally starting to wake up to the fact that yeah, there's DEFINATELY a political component to going after these folks, but that's not what matters.  What matters is when you go after them you manage to find something almost every time.

So MSNBC has a story out now about ACORN planning an independent investigation. For a company claiming the videos were dubbed it seems interesting that we now get:

"In addition, ACORN won't accept new admissions into its community service programs, effective immediately, and within the next few days will conduct staff training, she said."

The problem with it is that the left-leaning media is doing this country a dis-service by refusing to investigate stories they don't like to cover until they're forced to because it's become a national story they can't ignore.

They're supposed to report ALL the news, not just the news that fits their ideology.

Certainly, FOX is guilty of this as well. But this story was blowing up more than a week before CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC or any of the others even gave it the time of day.

Everyone here knows I'm a hardcore conservative, but I'm a rarity in that I will not ONLY watch FOX. I watch MSNBC just as much because I know that a story will be spun differently by the two networks.

The scary thing is a lot of people don't do that, and the networks know it. So if they decide to ignore a story it largely doesn't exist in the minds of their viewers.

I'd be happy to throw FOX out the window AND MSNBC out the window if we could get ONE network that actually reported the news from the center. And please don't suggest PBS because that is definately not unbiased.

Yes, MSNBC is only running the story because FOX ran it first, and I agree that's not the way it should be handled. But I have no problem with a station waiting to air a story until it has attempted to get input from both parties.
