Sunday - Bikers for Babies Day

smileclap.gif  YAY, YAY!!  Its here!! (That is all the excitement I have in me this early.) Today is the 15th annual March of Dimes Bikers for Babies ride. 6-7 thousand bikes are what is expected today, the ride is 115 miles long. Should be mostly cloudy and about 79*, so just about perfect riding weather.

Hope everybody has a great day. Please say a prayer for us that we will all be safe. With that many bikes around and all that traffic, its not unusual for somebody to have an accident.

Good day all.

Have fun Mema!

After several nights of not sleeping so well, I slept wonderfully last night! It was raining. And yesterday I hurt my leg (just muscle strain I think), and Sami slept on that spot most of the night. It was like having a low heat, low vibrating (purring) heating pad on it. I was worried it would be more sore today, but right now I'm just a bit stiff.

Hope your ride is a safe one Mema!!  Have a great time!  Sounds like fun. smile

Yesterday I got my DSL hooked up, and all I can say is I love it!!!  Seems much faster than my cable connection was, and the best part is I'm no longer losing my internet connection continuously!!!  clap.gifclap.gifclap.gifbiggrinbiggrin So tomorrow I'm going to Charter to cancel my account and will be telling them not to bother calling me anymore to take their phone, tv, or internet services.  I'm also going to tell them how TERRIBLE their internet service & customer service really is!  I'm glad to be done with them!!!

Today I gotta do some laundry, and if it warms up outside, I want to wash & wax my car and give my Lab a bath.  She loves the water but hates a bath so I expect to be soaked by the time I'm done.

Hope everyone has a great day!! smile

Happy Sunday all.

Happy riding Mema!

Sorry about your leg MZ, sounds like a cat could come in handy after all. smile.gif

Ghost, that's great news. Nothing more annoying than losing your connection over and over and over.

Me and the boy, just before the ride. I'm so proud of Christopher... he raised $1613!!! And oh man, don't we look like a couple of dirtbags? LOL!!

KC Bikers for Babies is the largest event in the country for March of Dimes. This year, March of Dimes National Spokesman... Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister... rode with us.

That's way cool Mema! I saw that event launch a couple years ago when I was in KC, and it was so incredible to see such a response for the cause. It sounds like you had a grat time! biggrin

It was really cool. The weather was really nice this year. I'm not sure how many bikes were there or how much they raised, but it is consistently the biggest ride in the country. Last year's ride netted $630,000... and that was KC alone, single day turn in amount. Johnny Dare from 98.9 The Rock here in KC is a major advocate for the event, so it gets tons of advertizing. All of the local news stations cover it even in the days leading up to it.

The really cool thing is that so many people turn out along the route to watch the bikes go by. It makes you feel even better about supporting such a worthwhile cause. My son's bike died about 3/4 way through the route in a little town. One family that came to watch the bikes go by even helped us out by letting us borrow their electrical test light and battery charger. We asked them how long they had been out there watching and waiving... they had been there since 9AM... it was around 1PM when we were talking to them. Really nice people. The dad is trying to save up some money to buy a bike to ride next year.

Lots of people in that town were sitting outside waiving at the bikers, holding signs that said "Babies love bikers" "Thanks for helping the babies", "God loves bikers" and even one kid holding a sign that said "Thank you for helping me!".
