The first tape I bought was Ted Nugent, Cat Scratch Fever. The first album I bought was actually after my first tape, it was Alf singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame, and came with an Alf hand puppet in a fast food kid's meal. My first CD was probably Van Halen, but I bought tapes for so long, I honestly don't remember my first CD.
I am going to date myself, which isnt as much fun as it sounds. My first album was an LP of Queen's "A Day At The Races" andthe Beatle's "Abbey Road". I even remember the store I went to, the friend I was with and how cool it felt to play "my music".
Mz. excellent thread idea...I guess it is one of those memories that is an important enough rite of passage that details remain vividly planted in the garden of our memories.
My first was a "Foreigner" cassette. I remember it very clearly because my mom was with me and I can still hear her say: "Dirty White Boy? ... That doesn't sound very nice"

Elton John--don't recall the title, but the one where he is sitting on the piano bench with the white rimmed glasses. Boy, does that date me. First CD was Level 42 and Bruce Hornsby.
I bought my first two albums at the Montgomery Wards store in Huntsville, Alabama. I remember it like it was yesterday. I bought the Grease soundtrack and the Paul Stanley Kiss album. My favorite song off of the Kiss album was Hold Me. I still love that song, although I probably haven't heard it in 10 years. My sister bought her first album that day, too. She bought the Fonzie album. It had oldies on it, but at the end it had a track that had the Sweat Hogs saying stuff like Ba Ba Ba Babarino and Ooh, ooh, Mr. Kotter! It was hillarious and we loved. There was also that Aye track that had the Fonz saying Sit On It and Aye over and over again. We thought it was so cool.

I can't even remember. I think it may have actually been Debbie Gibson's first release. I know I always got a lot for presents or my dad had a lot of the albums I loved to listen to.
I beleive it was "Sounds Like Kenny Rogers", a cheap knock-off album that sounded nothing like Kenny Rogers (when I bought it I thought it was actually Kenny Rogers).
OR Eddie Rabbit's "Horizon" lp.
I'm actually not sure anymore. The first purchase may have been a K-Tel cassette or a budget bin cut-out of Ray Parker Jr's "A WOMAN NEEDS LOVE".
It's one of those four. The memory goes fuzzy in my advanced years.
Star: I love those 2 that were your first purchase, but now you can call me gramps. I was attenting University in Hawaii surfing when those came out. I remember that playing Control on the beach with my girlfriend from Tahiti. Man I am old if those were your first.
Naw, cp, that name is reserved for Ray. You're cool w/ me if you like Janet. U of Hawaii? Must have been a good time! I went to college in freezing cool Milwaukee! But it was fun!
