(Not in reference to anyone here. More to the people that say you should always be in a good mood. I've always said being in one mood all the time isn't healthy.)
Feeling grumpy 'is good for you'
An attack of the grumps can make you communicate better, it is suggested
In a bad mood? Don't worry - according to research, it's good for you.
An Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly.
In contrast to those annoying happy types, miserable people are better at decision-making and less gullible, his experiments showed.
While cheerfulness fosters creativity, gloominess breeds attentiveness and careful thinking, Professor Joe Forgas told Australian Science Magazine.
'Eeyore days'
The University of New South Wales researcher says a grumpy person can cope with more demanding situations than a happy one because of the way the brain "promotes information processing strategies".
Negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world Professor Joe Forgas
He asked volunteers to watch different films and dwell on positive or negative events in their life, designed to put them in either a good or bad mood.
Next he asked them to take part in a series of tasks, including judging the truth of urban myths and providing eyewitness accounts of events.
Those in a bad mood outperformed those who were jolly - they made fewer mistakes and were better communicators.
Professor Forgas said: "Whereas positive mood seems to promote creativity, flexibility, co-operation and reliance on mental shortcuts, negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world."
The study also found that sad people were better at stating their case through written arguments, which Forgas said showed that a "mildly negative mood may actually promote a more concrete, accommodative and ultimately more successful communication style".
His earlier work shows the weather has a similar impact on us - wet, dreary days sharpened memory, while bright sunny spells make people forgetful.
Well, I hope you're happy -- Today I am in a crappy mood! I thought my stress level at home was comming down, but alas it's just a roller coaster ride. Now I have to get all pissy and lay down the law.
Smiles Everyone! Smiles!

I am usually in a crappy mood. Or at least usually slightly annoyed.
Today would be one of those days. Traffic was awful everywhere. I altered my route. I avoided the big mess, waded through the medium mess only to get stuck in a small mess/overflow type of situation. It still took me an hour and a half to get in here.

Stop trying to be what you see. Be what you ought to be.
Yeah "b!tchy" is my standard operating mode in the office. As much as the corporate line is that they want sunny-bunny happy people, that is not what they pay me or what they have promoted me for... which I point out on my review every time... they agree with me... then ding me for it anyway. Be that as it may, I actually had the following conversation with one of our Project Managers this morning:
Me: So, I think we can agree that the bottom line of my job is that I make sh!t work... correct? If it is new sh!t I install it and make it work. If it is broken sh!t, I fix it. Right?
PM:Right.
Me: I think we can also agree that the bottom line of your job is resource management. Like herding the cats so as to make sure sh!t gets done, on time, within budget, and reasonably correctly, and everyone gets notified of such, right?
PM: Right.
Me: So, when it comes to making sh!t work, you should reasonably suspect that I can do that and I therefore should not be asking you how to make it work, right? I should just be asking you the scope of your project, who I'm working with and what my dates are, right?
PM: Right.
Me: If I am expected to know how to do my job, but you aren't because it is not your job... why is it that I'm expected to tell you how to do your job? Shouldn't you know? If I have to be responsible for knowing my job and doing it AND I have to know how to do your job so I can tell you how to do it because you are asking me, why should I not just cut out the middle man, get your contact list... I probably know most of the players anyway... and do the coordination myself? It would make my life easier to cut out the step of dealing with you? Obviously I can do your job but you can't do mine... why do I need you?
PM: Hmm. I can't answer that. But you have a good point and I find it frightening.
Me: As well you should. Now, how 'bout you get with your team and make that same point to them? Get everybody sorting out how to manage a project so I don't get tired of telling you and just kick your @$$ and take your job?
PM: That's probably a very good idea.

Yeah, too bad he isn't worth owning. It's kind of like being the proud owner of a Yugo. It might get you to where you need to go, but its certainly not going to make you proud of the journey.
