Mz, How Goes the Story?

We're a third of the way through the month, how is your writing going?

It's a third of the way through the month, and I'm a third of the way done. Word wise, I'm right on track, although I'd rather be ahead. The minimum to finish exactly on November 30th is 1,667 words a day, and my goal is 2,000, but right now my average is 1,778.

Story wise, it's coming along nicely. I wrote at the library last night, and it was dark when I left. Even though it wasn't even 9 when I left, I felt like it was much later and that I had to watch my back or I would get mugged or something. Since I'm writing a horror story, I count this as a sign that I've creeped myself out, which is good.

So far in the story, a baby died in a car accident, two people have been murdered, their bodies went missing, and have been mutilated and reanimated. One person is bound with packing tape in a totally dark building, another is lost in the middle of the wind farm, and another has just talked to the "monster" over his cell phone. So far I've determined that the monster is some sort of spirit that reanimates corpses, and calls itself the Helper. It's signature style is to "help" the character, but of course, what it thinks is help and what the characters think of help are two different things.

Totally messed up book so far. Would probably make a good B rated horror movie.

How is your character development going?  Protagonists?

Do you have a plot outline or is it evolving as you go?

I always love the PROCESS.  smile

I tried an outline last year, and it changed incredibly as I wrote. This year I really have no plot and am just making it up as I go along.

I think I'm doing OK as far as character development goes. I have 6 characters, plus the monster. The main characters are a married couple that were driving home from a weekend away and had a fight right before they left so they weren't speaking. Then they get in a wreck with 2 other cars and a semi truck, and the wife is knocked unconscious with a head injury. I'm debating on using that later, possibly making her into a bad guy by the end of the book. Another character is the trucker, who goes off with an older man and his daughter to find help. As you might expect, that doesn't go well. The daughter ends up dead, the trucker is the one that was kidnapped, and the old man is lost. The 6th character is the mom of the baby who died in the car wreck, and also apparently has several identities. She gets killed before we learn much about her. Right now, the main character finally left his unconscious wife to try to find help on his own, gets scared by the monster, runs back to the wreck, his wife has regained consciousness, and he thinks he's finally successfully dialed 911. As you may expect, he did not get through to 911, instead he got the Helper, who has offered to "help."

I have no clue what happens next. I think I need the old guy to find his way back.
