Too Young For the 80's...

Oh Man....

Yesterday, my family had gotten together for Fathers Day. My Step-Niece is 12 years old...a child of the 90's & of course, too young too watch rated R movies (well kinda...she gets away with alot being so close in age to her mom...my step sis is only 29).....

We were looking at silly things on the internet & saw this Frog thing that sings to the "Axel F" Theme from Beverly Hills Cop. I turned to Allison and asked, "Do you know what movie that song is from?" She had no clue....

"have You ever heard it before?"...again, blank stare & a shake of the head no....

"It's From Beverly Hills Cop...." ....and she goes "never saw it..."

Now granted being 12, almost 13 you'd at least have seen the cut versions on TBS or TNT or something...or at least HEARD of it....

I replied "You've NEVER SEEN Beverly Hills COP?!?!?

her response...." No! I'm a preppy girl..I don't watch those Hillbilly movies."

Me--->

Sorry Somechick

But there just might be a need for some adult supervision on the forum...it appears you are a stabilizing influence.

I felt young this weekend.  I took my 82 year old parents to see my 88 year old aunt.  She said I was, "A handsome young man."

If they show it again, VH1 was running "The Top 100 Child Stars".  Where are they now and all that stuff.  Your bersidis will start hurting.

Whats interesting about that is some movies, television or music just dont stand the test of time very well.  Some of those things do hold up well and continue to influence todays artists.

The interesting thing is that many kids today do not have an appreciation for history or cultural trends from the past.  If it wasnt on American idol last week or in People Magazine this week, it isnt a big deal.

Try asking a kid about WWII, Korea, Vietnam or the first gulf war.  I wonder if the bar is lowering and no one knows, or does anyone even care?

Only if you still have a crush on Maureen McCormick.

I was shocked to see how many of them are now super smart.  Mathematicians, physicists, company owners, sheesh!

I'll be totally honest & pull MY stupidity out....I ALWAYS forget about Vietnam & Korea....i.e. which came first....when they started & ended... the main reasons for going...

I know some of the side stories...But I blame my education....

It always started back before eqypt...Mesopotamia & such....and goes through the year right until the end of WWII....that is usually the end of History for the year....

In grade school we did the simple run up....pyramids as triangles, indians & pilgrims, cowboys, etc...

Jr High did a little more in depth but ended shortly after the atomic bombs...

Highschool reset back to mesopotamia & took 4 years in depth to get back to WWII and again ended shortly after the Japanese Surrender my senior year.... I don't even think our text books went past Nixon's election, (& we never got that far in the books anyway)....It's like the 34 years between the end of wwII and My birth didn't happen...Or at least aren't important enough to teach....

You know, it's wierd you bring Beverly Hills Cop up, because I just bought the trilogy on DVD this past weekend.

About three weeks ago it occured to me that as much as I love the 80's, there are a ton of CLASSIC 80's movies that I've never seen in their original form, so I went on a shopping spree.

I mean, I never saw any of the Beverly Hills Cop movies in full, only bits and peices on cable. I've never seen Footloose!!!!

The thing is, I was in my teens when they were out, and my parents were strict about not letting me see R rated movies.

I feel as if I know them all because the stars were everywhere, on talk shows and stuff. I would hear all about them from my friends. The soundtracks in many cases were huge hits and the music video's would have scenes from the movies in them.

It's kind of cool now though, because I'm going back and finally seeing all these movies I missed out on as a teenager.

Like living the 80's all over again, but this time with an all-access pass

Going back to the original post about the Crazy Frog doing Axel F, that song has been number 1 in the charts here for 4 weeks now, the crazy frog is everywhere here! Ringtones are major business and he is at the forfront of it, very annoying, he even kept Coldplay of the number 1 spot, how mad is that!

ok, I'm not going to lie.  Don't allow Beverly Hills Cop on in the house.  it IS on TBS like a marathon all weekend all the time.  I hate it.  it is so cheezy.  i admit, i have never sat down and watched it.  but that's because it's so dumb it's embarassing.  and i'm sure i've seen it a million times for how much they play it!!
