Holmgren Goes From Green to Brown

Mike Homgren, the Green Bay Packers Super Bowl Winning Coach From 1992 through 1999 was named President of the Cleveland Browns last night.  The Cleveland fans were given an early Christmas gift.  Holmgren brings instant credibility to the franchise.

Holmgren left Green Bay in 1999 for the Head Coach and GM Job in Seattle.  Ron Wolf, the Packers GM retired only a couple years later.  If Homgren would have waited, he would have been able to have both jobs in Green Bay.   He had mixed success in Seattle wearing both hats and as a result, was stripped of his GM duties.  He retired as the Seattle coach after the 2008 season.

Seattle made overtures to Homgren about returning as its GM, but Cleveland pursued him beginning several weeks ago and offered what is believed to be 1 10 year, 50 million dollar contract.

I wish him well and think he will have success as Cleveland's GM.  He is a good evaluator and motivator of football talent.  I was hoping at some point he would be able to return to Green bay in this capacity... but it appears Cleveland will be the last destination on the football map for the 61 year old ex Packer coach.
