More importantly, how does one get back into a regular sleep pattern after sleeping so long> If I did that, when it came time for bed I would be awake.

To me it seems like a good amount of time. I slept a lot this last week. I don't know how to get back to a normal sleep pattern other than sheer exhaustion.

While home, I found that 8 hours is what my body needs. Just about every day my body would wake me up about 8:30am. Now, that is not saying that I didn't go back to sleep too. But to get up, go to the bathroom, have a drink of water and then to go back and curl up under the covers was good. A few days I just laid there for awhile. Other days I went back to sleep for another hour.

Yeah, I do the get up to get a drink and go potty then go back to bed thing too. Poor Eddie... he got used to having his mommy home all day. When the alarm went off this moring and woke us both up, he was not amused. I got hollered at for several minutes.

That's what I told him. It was pathetic... he was crying and I was petting him saying, "Mommy's sorry but she has to go to work so Eddie can have a warm place to sleep and food." I know he doesn't understand... but it makes me feel better.

I have a problem where I typically wake up between 7:00 and 8:00 and then I start worrying that I have a customer with a problem waiting for a reply from me. It keeps me from going back to sleep so I get up and check email. Sometimes I'll then curl up in the recliner and get another hour or so after that.
My dog was happy that we are back to work since she comes with me. She was getting bored at home. She does the same thing here that she does at home (sleep), but she seems more content just to be some place other than at home for a while.

You're right Fuzzy, 12 hours IS entirely too long to sleep. I LOVED IT!
I was telling Web that I looked up January 1's daily thread from last year and it appears I did the same thing, so it's officially a New Years tradition now.
Ordinarily my body wakes me up after about 6 - 7 hours. I haven't even set a regular alarm in over ten years. If I'm worried about the possibility of over-sleeping I might set the alarm on my cell phone.
On New Years Day I was indeed up after 7 hours, but forced myself back to sleep for a while longer.
