"Sparticus" in the movie quotes thread made me think of this. Rather than derail that thread, I thought I'd start another one.
Do you have, or know of any cool or funny pet names?
My neighbors have a Dalmation dog that is named "Spoticus".
A friend of ours used to have a Black Lab that he named "Mr. Tiz". That was so he could go out side and yell "Here 'Tiz, Here 'Tiz!".
Our son wanted to name our puppy "Beans". We talked him into making that her middle name so when she's in trouble, it's "Allie Beans!". My brother was giving me a hard time about our dog named "Beans" so I reminded him that through his kids, he has two horses named "Long Nose" and "Gravy".

We were given a stray German Shepard. We just started calling him dog because we didn't know what his name was. He answered to it. We were creative though, it was spelled Dawg.

Our one dog is named Copper but will respond to Dingbat, because he is one. Our cat is named Faith. She was rescued from a dumpster and we were going to call her Grace (as in Saved by Grace), but some friends already had a cat with that name, Faith was the next logical choice. Our other dog is named Caylah because she looks just like her mom who is named Lily, but she's bigger. A cahlah lily is a big lily.
Well, although we named our cats Sami and Jack, they both have nicknames. Sami is Piranha, because when she was a kitten, if you were in bed and would let your arm hang over the side, or if you got up to go to the bathroom, she would just attack you and latch on. Jack's nickname is Velcro because of the way he used to climb up a large upholstered chair when he was a tiny little 8 week old kitten. He still uses his claws to latch on to things like the carpet when he plays and it makes this sound just like velcro.
I thought this thread was going to be about funny pet-names. As in your pet-name for your significant other. Like schmoopie! Anyway since it isn't about that - I like when people name their dog - bear or pig. I think that is cute.
I think it's weird when cats and dogs get people names.
My cat does kind of have a person name but it's a cutsie person name - carly. It's not like Susan or something that wouldn't fit a cat. Know what I mean?
I don't think that a person's name either. There was this little dog up the street from my parents old house named Randal. Now what a big name for a little dog?
I used to have a cat that I bought at a pet store (which is unheard of where I live) that was white with orange spots. I named him Freckles. However, he had the hugest ears I have ever seen on a cat and a large nose and mouth and my dad started calling him Yoda and that stuck. I also had a cat that my grandpa found and gave to me (my first cat since my dad doesn't like cats) that I named Rum Tum Tugger from Cats! and then I found out she was a girl. So much for stud kitty.
We also had a dog that my sister rescued that was named Cooter (she didn't name the dog). The only bad thing about that was that is what my sister calls a certain part of the female body. I never did yell for that dog...
We also had a dog named Spanky and a dog named Darla at different times. We loved the Little Rascals. My brother bought my mom a registered poodle named Feisty Pete's Surprise. Boy, what a surprise. The dog had the same heart condition as my mother.

My wife's uncle has a dog named Scab Head (Scabby for short), When he was just a pup he had a huge scab on his head and thats how they could tell the difference from the other pups. It just kind of stuck.

My daughter chooses male names for her pets - very strange when most 6 year olds are naming their pets Fluffy and Spot... She's got a goldfish named Jeremy and a hamster named Tom...
Cat-wise we have a cat named Zoot because he's got a black goatee and a black spot that looks like a beret.. so it was going to be Zoot or Daddy-O. Zoot stuck, but he also answers to Zootie, Zootmeister and Food.
I always name my cats human names. My cats are my children, they need children's names. The catch is how we came up with their names. Sami is named after Sammy Hagar. Jack is named after several famous Jacks, including Jack Skelington and You Don't Know Jack.
a few years back, a ferret came to live with me , his name was Yeagar ,as in yeager meister, well, he was thin , bald , pretty rough shape. He got his coat back, gained his weight back and got active again.when someone would ask what his name was, I'd say Yeagar and they would say as in yeagermeister ? To which I would reply- No, as in General Chuck Yeager, he is way to cool to be associated with a cheap brew ! the General crossed over the bridge a while back, he is missed.
