Monday

Just wanted to say that there is a man staying with us- Duane's friend, court ordered to be here. Been here for a week. Anyway he had a 8 month old lab that Ruby fell in love with. He was hit by a car last night and died. Everyone here is crushed.

On that note try to have a great!

Good day all.

Aw, sorry to hear about the dog Ruby!

Yep, it's Monday. The students are back in town, so the city's going to be busy again.

Good day, all. Another lovely day here at Camp Happy. Not unlike DS, we are having a heatwave... presently 27* and sunny. Its supposed to get up to 41* on Wednesday. w00t.gif Hoping some of the snow will melt off as I'm pretty tired of looking at it.

Not sure what this day will be like, but rumor has it that we get our "big announcement" on Wednesday. Really wish they would just get it over with.

Dang, that is sad about the dog. cry.gif

I am home with the boy today, its just a teacher training day.

My FaceBook friends know this, but yesterday was a crazy day for us. I got up and went to praise team practice and everything was fine. I was in Sunday School at church and Mrs Web called my cell. For her to be calling me at that time, I knew it must be important so I stepped out and answered it. She was quite excited and said "We have a busted pipe in the basement and I can't reach the shutoff to stop it!"

So, I hurried home, splashed through the water on the basement floor and got it shut down. There is one of those free standing fiberglass stall showers that sits over a floor drain. The busted pipe was behind a layer of drywall behind that shower. It has probably been broken for days, but with the warm up, it finally thawed out and started leaking.

Fortunately, a great deal of the water was going down the drain, but judging by the number of times I emptied our 12 gallon shop vac, I think I sucked up about 200 gallons off the basement floor.

After I got most of the water up, I then tore out the shower, and cut a big hole in the wall to get to the pipe. A few hours, and a couple trips to the hardware store later, we had water flowing again.

Our basement floor is painted concrete. I just have a big square of carpet under the exercise equipment. That carpet is still wet, but everything else is dry now. I've got fans running on the carpet to try to dry it out.

Although it really sucked, it could have been MUCH worse. I'm glad it happened while we were home.

Yeah, the pipe is fixed, but now we gotta decide what to do with the wall.

We don't use that shower, but it is kind of nice having a backup. It was a really poor idea to put those pipes against an outside foundation wall behind the drywall, behind the shower. No wonder it froze up. Changing all that would be a BIG job. I'm not sure what we're going to do with it yet. hmm.gif

That is harsh. Good thing you have the skills to fix that yourself.

Good afternoon everyone.  I just got done snow blowing; weatherman said 1-2 inches for us today.....ha, more like 5 and it's still snowing!  bleh We have so much snow on the ground now that my blower won't push it up on the snow banks anymore.  Guess from now on I'll have to leave it for my husband to do.  He has one of those big monsters that has a transmission in it which I've never learned how to use. Sometimes it pays off to be a "dumb blond". winkbiggrinbiggrin

Web, I'm glad you were able to fix it!  It's nice to have a back-up shower in the basement but I always worry about our pipes freezing and bursting too.  We insulated the block walls when we finished off our basement; husband says they won't freeze but I still worry about that happening when it gets really cold outside.  I didn't carpet down there either just in case pipes break or the walls decide to start leaking.....I have huge matching area rugs and runners for warmth on the floors and to make it look nicer than concrete.

Ruby, so sorry to hear about the dog! crycry
