Dont want you to think we are not a friendly bunch. Your narratives on Shania have been an interesting and informative summary of Shania's career. She is clearly a beautiful and talented woman with the good fortune of working with a tremendous producer.
I am a singer song writer who has been in a band I started about 7 years ago. I can honestly say there is enough drama in forming, maintaining and managing a band that alot of people never see.
Having said that, my whole goal is simply to make and share music. That is what makes it worth it. If that touches people, I am pleased. My ability to make music, however humble it may be, is a God given gift. I dont mind sharing that.
I cannot relate to the level of fame Shania has had to deal with. Few people can. I will say this as a musician and as a person...I feel sorry for her. Our culture worships celebrity. At the end of the day, to deal with that kind of scrutiny must be paralyzing. We dont worship our mechanics, teachers, clergy or police. And yet they do as much for us as any entertainer.
Entertainment is an escape, a diversion. I imagine interest in the entertainer's personal life is just an added escape or diversion. We might love their art or craft so much we want to know more and possibly feel connected to it in some way.
However, my personal life is my personal life. I want people to enjoy my music. If they like me that is a bonus. Fans are an important part of any artistic endeavor. Fame is a fishbowl that keeps getting smaller and smaller as our culture's voracious appetite for celebrity gets bigger and bigger. If the interest is music related or business related, by all means it is fair game. But what happens in the artist's personal life is just that....personal. We need those boundaries.
If I am going to put that kind of attention into any life, it will be my own. I can respect and admire someone's accomplishments and talent. But I dont hero worship any man or woman. That worship is reserved for my religious convictions.
I see you are clearly passionate about Shania's career. Appreciation of her music to the degree you clearly love it is great. If some of us havent shown that same zeal, dont take it personally. Music is very subjective. For the reasons I have mentioned, the other aspects of her life are not of the same interest level to the casual fan. However, your interest in her as a person makes you happy and we appreciate your sharing it with us.
