What do you drive?

Gasoline prices, reversing a two-month slide, are again approaching records and at least one expert thinks they could hit $3 a gallon soon in the United States.

As read on Money.com

Can  you tell that I am catching up on the news.? I noticed today that gas is going back over $2.00. I drive a minivan, but wish I was driving a hybrid! Not really a '69 corvette is more my style!

Oh I bought a Mazda 3 in february, just turned over 2000 miles today. My baby!

It's great on gas milage, but still it tics me off- do you remember the good old days when if you had a smaller car, you could fill up the tank for $9 and have a buck left over for a lottery ticket?? Its not THAT long ago.

I hope we live to see the day when cars no longer run on gas. I'd love to see OPEC nations on their knees.

Ok folks this may seem kinda odd as I am seeing gas prices here in iowa hit $2.09 on up per gallon but here are my rides. The one I drive regularly is a 91 eagle talon with a fresh rebuild. The other one I drive would be the first car I owned: 1967 olds 442. I wont even fathom how much it would cost me to fill that tank. I need to use sunoco race gas and I still have some from last year.

I've got a '99 Chevy Malibu and a '97 Saturn. My daughter drives a '91 Saturn Coupe. The motor is great the interior is falling apart. It's time for a new car but I just can't stomach the new car prices. I'll probably buy used again.

I am currently driving a Chevy Trailblazer. 20 gallon tank. I try to drive wisely. But with the drive to work it is basically one fill up per week.

I can usually go two weeks between fill ups unless I go to Indy.  I was so proud of myself when I found gas for $1.93 two weeks ago, and then $2.07 a week ago, but this week it's $2.25!  I'm driving on fumes at the moment hoping for the prices to go down.

Oh, and I drive a '99 Saturn 3 door coupe.  I love it except when I've got the air on it really drags the motor down.  Unfortunately, they've discontinued my model, and I don't like what they replaced it with, so I probably won't get a Saturn when I get a new car.  Though, I figure this one has quite a few years on it yet.

Gas in Connecticut is always higher than a lot of other places, NY and Cali i think may be higher. we have outrageously high taxes.  last week it was 2.32 at shell.   i have to get gas this afternoon.   i expect it to be over 2.32.   sigh.  i remember .99 gas prices.   and i am only 32.    gas prices have gone insane.

i drive a 2002 Chevy Cavalier.   i am a speed demon and burn out my little 4 cylinders out every 5 years or so....  this is my 5th car.   my first was a 91 escort.   i destroyed it.   it wept with Joy when the junkman took it way.  i blew 2 engines and 3 trainings. i snapped an axyl (that was really great.... went through at least 2 alternators...   by the end the drivers door wouldn't close, you had to keep the window down and hold it when you drove....  the windsheild wipers didn't work, you had to put the fuse in when you needed them and then take the fuse out to make them stop. automatic seatbelts made that horrid noise.

it really took a beating though.   i used to pile 10 people into it and drive like a bat out of hell.   sigh.....   those were the days.

MJ, I've had so many cars like that.  My first car was a '79 Buick Century, it was a boat, I called it the USS Slug.  It lasted an hour.  The thermometer was broke, the engine overheated, water got into the oil, and the engine seized.

My second car was an 81 Olds Supreme.  I called it Louie.  It had comfy seats, electric windows that worked half the time, the driver's side window wouldn't roll down, it would die at stoplights or if it had to go over a large hump, and the heater worked about half to time.  Of course, there was no air.

Then, I got an incredible offer on a chevy van, so I took it and named it Frankie.  The first time I took the van out on a drive, the transmission broke down.  We rigged it, and it worked for about a month until the transmission went out completely.

My 4th car was a pretty decent, mid 80's Olds Supreme that I named Quatro, that had primer instead of a paint job, but all in all, it worked pretty well.  Then one day I was driving home in a snow/sleet storm, going up a hill and around a corner, but although the tires turned, the car continued to go straight, ramped over one high curb and into another and broke both axles.

So then I got a '73 Nova, named Aldo, whose frame was bent, and someone had put a sunroof in.  This thing leaked like a sieve, not only from the sunroof, but from all of the windows (we found this out after we went through a car wash), and would start to shake if I went of 40mph.

I had Aldo until my parents bought a new car and sold their '92 Lumina to me.  It lasted a while, but at this point I said if anything major goes wrong with it, I'm buying a decent car.  So, one day we had taken both cats to PetSmart, and when we got out, the car wouldn't start.  It was probably only the alternator, starter, or battery, but at this point I had it.

I bought my Saturn, who is named Pleasantly Blue, and it's treated me well.  It does need an oil change, and probably a tune-up at this point, and I'm having a problem with the windshield wipers not wanting to shut off, but I plan to get all of these fixed by the end of summer.

First ride was a blue '78 Plymouth Volare that I called "The TARDIS".  Geek, I know.  I got engaged in that car.

Then I bought my first new car, an '89 Chevy Cavilier.  Great car but it was a 2 door and not practical when we had kids.

Then I got what I'm driving now, a '98 Mazda Protege.  Over 110,000 miles and it is still running well.  With car and gas prices as they are, I'm going to push it a few more years.

My mechanic just told me yesterday that with proper care it should hit 200,000 easy.  I don't know if I'm going to push it that far, but who knows?

lol MZ, I love it when you are able to say.. .oh, the car won't start... it might be battery, alternator, spark plugs, loose ignition wire, or one of 12 other things... when you can name them all, you know you are a queen of the bombs.

aside from my escort, my other bombs were:

2: 1995 tracker... bought new... got the 100K mile warranty....    did really well up to 105K miles then was flying on 84 and blew a rod through the side of the engine...   car actually caught fire on the highway...

3: 89 Olds - monter guzzled gas and master cylinder went on the brakes while going down hill into New Haven (i was in college at the time and broke)  very dangerous car...  you had to step on the gas to start it....  i wasn't very good at it and finally took my boyfriends car and made him drive the bomb.  by the time it died completely it lost the muffler and the back window was shattered out...  also the top fabric was falling down.. kinda like a tent..     (rule is you can't fix up a bomb...   let it develope into the best bomb it can be without interference)

4: 92 Dodge Sedan something or other....   was a decent car.. but training started to go and i refused to sink a dime into it so i bought the cavalier new.   another 100k warranty.....   i am at just over 60K now.

tick tock tick tock

O.K. Music Junkie, please realize that I say this in love, and that I'm only worried about your safety.

Based on your history with automobiles, don't drive....ever.  You are attracting every down 'n out vehicle in town.  Time to get a bicycle.

Well, it's not hard to get you back.  And I don't appreciate the tomatoe in the face (although you like to claim it a water ballon).  I'll give you a head start.

I also like to drive my parents convertable - it's the best in FL!!!

I have a very legitimate excuse for my old cars.  Until I bought my Saturn, the most I spent on a car was $800!
