Favorite Charity (ies?)

I know not everyone is in a position to donate money; charity begins at home.

But do you have a favorite charity, whether or not you can contribute money to it or not?

For me, its The Make A Wish Foundation. That those poor kids get to live out their dreams. Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about that.

Most charities have a noble cause a their core  or simply couldnt last.  There is neveer a shortage of maladies.

I know when it touches you or someone you know, thats what makes it personal.  Until then, we have ben desensitized by a cultural overload of information.

A friend of mine has MS, so that is painful to watch unfold.  But I would agree that children stricken with life threatening disease or terminal illness always seem to touch people and reinforce the concept of one's own mortality.

My church gets most of my charity, as does the boy scouts. However, I also support My Sister's House. It is an organization to help families of domestic violence.

JD, you're calling me out, aren't you?

OK, I figure this information would be pretty easy for people to find anyway:

I'm the Patient Campaign Specialist for the Children's Organ Transplant Association.  I'm the main contact for families and volunteers raising funds for children in need of life-saving transplants.  We teach people how to fundraise, including on site trainings, and we housr the funds for the families so they are not responsible for it.  Unlike many other charities, we offer our services at absolutely no cost, and we do not take any portion of the proceeds.

Check us out: www.cota.org.

Thanks for the information, MZ.  That may come in useful when my dad/daughter group kicks into gear in the fall.

Our donations go to our church as well, but it is one heck-of-a church.  We have a branch called the Willow Creek Association that reaches out internationaly and many, many ministries on the domestic side.  They get a whole bunch of our family's time as well.

(WFTR Rant!)  Check out Romans 12:1-8, 2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Just earnin' my name.

WFTR, (and anyone else for that matter) let me know if you ever want to do anything, and I can let you know what kids are in your area that you might be able to give money or time to.

Wow Mz-

I didn't have you in mind when I started the thread, but I totally now remember you were involved with helping people with sick children. I will check out your site! Thanks,

JD

WFTR I love the biblical referneces. How fitting! I hope others will read it. Keep it up WFTR, we all need to reread whenever we can. I have been spending a lot of money buying things for my mother that I would normally not buy. It's only an extra $20-30 a week, but every bit counts around me! Anyway, I know in my heart if I really need $20-30 that bad, God will get it to me. Those passages have shown me the ways. Out of their family, I am the one who has the extra resources, and I know that it is because of him!
