I've always wanted to get Photo-shop but can't get myself to spend the money.
But I came across this article today on MSNBC.com and it sounds like there's some great free options out there. I'm downloading two of the first three right now.
Let me know how everythign works JR. I have wanted some software, but haven't taken the time to do the research. Probably because I don't want to fork out the money.

I've used GIMP, and it wasn't bad, but I'm used to Photoshop and just never got the speed in GIMP that I have in Photoshop. Granted, that was also about 5 years ago, I'm sure it's improved since then.
I use Picasa. It's great for quick fixes and to keep track of photos. There are many times that I use Picasa instead of Photoshop; if I just need some basic color correction or cropping, Picasa is actually quicker. It also makes downloading pictures from my camera super easy.
i randomly use things when I try and make graphics. I have Gimp installed but I use it occasionally. Usually at work when I really shouldn't be making stuff- lol Have also used LunaPic and Flauntr
I got a free disk of Corel Paint Shop Pro and use that most often at home. I'm still trying to get the handle on it tho.
i think I also have Photo Shop Suite MGI Photo Suite and I know we used that to edit some of our Vegas pictures. We removed the tourists haha
I would love to get my hands on Photo Shop just to see what it was like since it's so popular. But I will not fork out the money!

I am still having trouble changing red eye in Photoshop - it never looks quite natural. How is Picasa for that?

It depends on the picture. The nice thing about Picasa is that you can just click, and if you don't like it, it's really easy to undo.
