It's not painted yet. We have until the 17th to get it painted. I'll be home with him Thursday & Friday for Spring Break. Maybe we can work on that and have it done by Monday.
Yes, I'll post a pic of it when it's done. I'll try to get a pic or two of it racing down the track too.

We won't know anything until tomorrow night after the race. I saw all the cars this week. I think our stiffest competition for design is a "Snickers" bar. They did an awesome job on that one. It looks like a Snickers bar in a wrapper with wheels.
There were 41 cars entered and we finished 3rd in the speed race. I think 3rd place for a tank in the speed race is quite acceptable.
Then, they gave the other awards and they called our number for 1st in "Design".
I thought the boy was going to explode when he realized he was getting ANOTHER trophy for design too.
But, now I realize we have a problem . . . He has three more years of being in the group that does the pinewood derby . . . I'm afraid that the bar has been set and he's going to expect to do at least this well the next three years.

Wow, that's awesome! And you didn't even expect to win anything on speed! Do you think that the top heavy weight of the tank gave it an advantage?
No, I knew we wouldn't be last, but I certainly didn't expect to be in the top three fastest.
I don't think the top weight helped much. The theory says that weight in the back helps the most because as the car comes off the "hill", the weight being in the back pushes just a little bit longer than if the weight is in the front. Its like you have an extra 3" of hill if you move the weight back 3".
I spent some time polishing up the axles and making sure every extra plastic nub and rough spot was off the wheels. I also made sure we were as close to the 5 oz limit as we could be. The more weight you have moving, the better it can overcome the friction that is trying to slow it down.
