The final song!?!? Your thoughts?

I've always regretted not writing down what the first song ever played on FFR was.  It was spring of 2003 (March I believe) and I want to say it was either "VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR" or "WKRP IN CINCINATTI".

I seem to recall it was something symbolic.  I'm leaning toward the first one because that just feels right.  An homage to the first video played on MTV.

At any rate, we CAN determine the final song to be played on FFR.  I wanted to take suggestions from you guys on what it should be.

Keep in mind however, that in my heart of hearts I'm REALLY hoping this isn't the end.  If I get the promotion I'm hoping for in the next year or two I would bring it back.  I've also had a business idea for 3 or 4 years now that I think could actually utilize FFR to a small degree, if I ever make a move on that idea that would also be a reason to bring it back.

In the meantime, if I find I miss it too much I've even entertained the idea of just having a month of live broadcasting two or three times a year.  (can you tell this hasn't been an easy decision for me?)

So the final song doesn't have to have a finality to it, or it can!  What do you got for me?

An obvious choice to me was the Doors "The End", but that one seems a bit to negative for my taste.

Ha! I just thought of a good one! One of the most overplayed songs in FFR history.

Night Ranger's "Goodbye"!!!! nana.gif

I know we've already used it as a theme song, but then it seems even more fitting as the last song. What about Don't You Forget About Me?

Ah, that's a very good suggestion MZ.

In fact, I think it's perfect. I can't believe I missed it.

It is for me, the MOST defining song of the 80's. As an added bonus it doesn't say "goodbye", in fact it says EXACTLY what I want it to say, "Don't forget about FFR. Check back in a year, two years, we may just be back one day".

I think you've ended the competition early. smile.gif

I LOVE the innagotadavita idea JD! rofl.gif

It IS perfect! Pheonix City would be a good one too.

As for the station, I really think I'm going with MZ's idea. Besides all the reasons listed above, it's also a nice nod to what the station was originally meant to be.

You actually get TWO final songs, one for Underground 80's and one for Jazz 101.

Maybe do a countdown of final or ending type songs and finally finish with Don't You Forget About Me?

I considered that one too.  It was the theme for the T-10 countdown back when I used to do them at 10 PM every night.

To show just how far we've fallen, back in 2003 and 2004 when I was doing the T10 Countdown at TEN PM CENTRAL TIME, I was STILL drawing 15 - 20 people!  That's more than double what we get now during peak daytime hours.

Internet radio is indeed dying, and it never got a chance to grow up.

You know JD, I think that's what made me fall in love with the internet radio back then.

It was SO cool to sit down at 9:55 to start the show and watch the audience grow.  At first it was like 4 listeners for the entire hour.

But little by little the audience grew and grew.  Then I started to notice how many were showing up specifically FOR the T-10.  I'd sit down at 9:50 or so and we'd have 5 or 6, at ten o'clock it would jump to 11 or 12, by the third song it would be nearly 20.

And without fail, the MINUTE I announced the number one song half the audience would leave.  They wouldn't even stick around to hear it, they just had to know what it was.  smile.gif

I totally agree with Mz choice for final song. lThe best there was from one of the most defining movies of the 80s.
