MOVIE REVIEW: The Woodsman

Ok. Watched this film on DVD Sunday night.

First, I have to say I both like and hate films like this one. I like them because they give a different perspective to an ugly situation, I hate them because too often they are critically acclaimed and called "artsy" simply because of the subject matter. I also think that it's a fine line to avoid glamorizing the villian or making the villian a sympathetic character.

If you don't know, this film stars Kevin Bacon in the role of a recently paroled child molester. He has spent 12 years in prison and this is the story of him trying to put his life together after his release.

I guess I'd say the story is told decently, but it's very hard to watch a movie in which, as I stated earlier, the criminal is being portrayed as someone we should feel sorry for. As if all the hard working normal people are the bad guys because they don't trust the recently released child molester.

In light of the Idaho situation from the past month this film particularly bothered me.

I'll be real curious to see if anyone else saw this movie so we could discuss it.

On the Jeremy scale of 0 to 10, I give this one a 4, and knock it down to a 3 just to tick off all the critics that bestowed it with awards because they think it's an "important" film!
