MOVIE REVIEW: Julie & Julia

We haven't had a movie review on here in a while.

We watched Julie & Julia last weekend, and we loved it.  In fact, Brian suggested we buy it, he liked it so much.

It's a very sweet story, about Julie, who decides to cook every recipe in Julia Child's book in 365 days, and blog about each one.  During the movie, it also tells about how Julia Child came to write her book and become such an iconic American cook.

Even if you're not a Julia Child fan, it's a wonderful story.  I love Julia Child, but during her bits in the movie, I was actually more interested to get back to Julie's story.  Julie reminds me a lot of, well, me.  I've looked up her current blog and subscribed to it, and I plan to buy her book.

We were able to get it when it first hit Netflix. I wasn't crazy about it.

I think what threw me off is that I was expecting something different. I was expecting more of a light-hearted comedy with lots of funny scenes and situations in the kitchen . . . like the trailers and ads showed. In the end, I felt like it was more of a documentary and that I was constantly waiting for the funny parts to begin and they just never did.

I was expecting NOT to like it, but I rented it anyway because I love Meryl Streep and I really liked Amy Adams in "Enchanted".
I thought it was quite entertaining... I think the funny parts actually accentuated the more serious parts of the film. I just love how "in love" Paul was with Julia heart.gif

I didn't see the previews, so I wasn't going in with any expectations. I think that helped.

I can't stand Meryl Streep so I avoided this one.  I don't know what it is about her, but I just don't like her at all.

I know the movie got a lot of buzz when it was in theaters though, and before I knew she was in it I was considering watching it once it was released.

Yeah, there's some actors that I'm like that with. And although she does an excellent Julia Child, you can still tell it's Meryl Streep.
