Would you move for more money?

Hey-

Just thought of this- hey maybe I can make it a poll!!!

a lot of people I knew once out of college were willing to move, in fact did move to chase the money. Left their family and friends and loved ones in search of the big $$$.

Would you do it, did you do it? any stories about it?

Me, I am a Milwaukee boy and can't picture wanting to leave here. Even with the 10 months of winter, I know this town, I love this town, my family and friends are here.

Not a chance.  In line with the "My advice would be...." thread, I have seen too many people chase the cash and end up miserable.  Some of the worst ones are those who left the support of friends and family behind.

I would move in a second if the company I work for wanted me to.  It's not the area I live in that I'm attached to, it's the company.  It would be hard for another company to match the benefits, nevertheless the karmic benefits, that I receive here.

I wouldn't have a problem moving for a better job.  I'm not really attached to miami - although I love the weather.  But I'm not a money chaser!

Maybe. If it were a really good opportunity for me. I don't have much, but I still think that it would be hard to leave the little bit of family I have. They are already an hour away from me. I don't think I would actually do it, but you never know until given the opportunity. Although, I am close enough to the border on NJ, DE and maybe MD that leaving the state wouldn't be too far.

I think maybe if you are familiar with the territory that you would be moving too, it would be easier. I have visited chicago quite a few times now, I know the downtown, but it would never be "home" to me....

I used to say I'd never move from here, but it's become so developed, I'm counting the years until my daughter is out of school and I don't have to stay in a higher income area.

If i could make enough money that i could afford a place for my mom and grams in a warmer climate i would go in a heatbeat.....

it is not Fargo cold here in the winter, but it is hard on the elderly.

For me, I did move from Chicago to here. I want to go home. I have never lost that feeling. However, I have a step daughter, so I am stuck here. My husband would never leave her. I want to when she gets older, but he says no. I just think what if she moves??? He is very devoted, but I am homesick I wanted to raise my kids some place where there is snow!

You know what.  I voted no.   I have lived in Utah, Hawaii, Arizona, Wisconsin and California.  And I love my desert paradise.  But there would have to be one other factor to the money.  Can I spend time with my family.  What would I have to sacrifice for the additional monies?

That's another good point CP.  It's not the money or the area I live in, it's the other benefits I may receive or be losing.

A big factor for me (as in all things) is what are the Big Guy's plans?  I remind myself of Abraham, Joseph, and Moses when I start getting all comfy and smug.  Never think you've got all the details figured out.  But, by the parameters of the thread, I would not go strictly for money.

You are right Wef.  I have and am learning the hard way that money is not everything, and I never thought I would say that.  I believe I now have a faint inkling into the "its easier for a camel to go thru an eye of the needle than a rich man to heaven."
