Gas here, just because it's so convenient.

While charcoal gives food a little more flavor, I have to agree with DT, as gas is more conveinient.

If you do it right with mesquite wood chips, gas is a lot easier and faster.

Open flame should've been an option.  But since it's not, I'd say charcoal.  My stove is gas, and I can do that indoors!

There is more of a caveman feel I feel with charcoal. you need all the elements to align to get it right. Fire, air, wind, and water (to put it out when it gets out of control!) But I think the charcoal flavor is worth it!

A real outdoor chef has no clean up to deal with.

You just let those old remnants of charcoal sit at the bottom of the grill until you put the new briquets over them.

And the actual grill itself isn't suppposed to be cleaned after each use, where do you think the flavor comes from for the next batch of burgers!!

My favorite grilling is done when I go camping, because I'll buy a cheap, $10 or $15 portable grill, use it all weekend and then just dump it when I'm done. 6 - 9 grilled meals with no cleanup! WOO HOO!

Charcoal!  Even though I rallied against smoking in the other poll.

Gas is just outdoor broiling, and it's not that much more convenient.  I have known so many pepole that either had to fidgit with gas cans, or argue with faulty starters, took as long as lighting a pile of briquettes.

Gas is definitely more convienent so it gets my vote but I've hear that charcoal gives it more flavor.
