I walked to work today. It's only 60 degrees outside, but it was enough to warm me up a bit. But tomorrow is supposed to rain, so I don't think I'll be walking to work.
As I've mentioned, the bank where my wife works (TOB) has been in financial trouble. This is due to over extending sub-prime loans in Florida, Las Vegas, and Arizona which got them in an upside down situation when the economy went bad. They have tried to work deals with the OTS (Feds) regarding partial sales, reorganization, etc, all which fell through.
This has been a very stressful time on all the employees, not knowing what was going to happen.
During this time, the bank was pretty much unable to make new loans. Jeff's (the branch president) salary was largely based on commission from agriculture loans. To take care of himself, he quit a couple months ago and started a new loan bank here in town (HB). He took his secretary with him on this venture. He has not been replaced yet.
During the up and down, Mrs Web had two job offers. First was Jeff's dad who is president of another bank in town, and most recently Jeff also asked her to join him at the new HB. She had promised her closest customers that she would ride out this transition with them so she turned down both offers. She turned down Jeff as recent as Thursday.
Friday morning, TOB got that cease and desist notice from the FDIC. The understanding was that the bank had one final six weeks to either fix the problems or they would be shut down. This was hard news to know that this waiting game could carry on for six more weeks. Customers were already very grumpy.
Friday evening, Mrs Web got a call while at the boy's baseball game that one of the banks (GWB) that was trying to buy TOB had taken over. She was told that she would need to report to work at 7:00am (today) to sign employee papers and begin as a GWB employee. This was good news, the question was over . . . onward and upward with the new owners.
Yesterday afternoon, we saw on FaceBook that a gal we know at another branch got a call that she would not be working at GWB. Knowing that she was only part time and working three days a week, we didn't think too much about it. About 6:30 last night, our phone rang and it was to let Mrs Web know that she need not report for work this morning. They did not have a position that fit her current job description, and she could come in at 7:00pm tonight to pick up her personal items from her office.
Mrs Web was NOT happy, mainly because she put up with all the crap up to this point, proved her loyalty, only to be "laid off".
She quickly called Jeff back and he was at a basketball tournament, but he promised he'd return her call as soon as he got done. He called back about 8:30 and told her he'd still love to have her working with them at the new HB bank . . . same pay/benefits as she was getting at TOB.
Two other gals at TOB are also going to HB. They were going to let TOB know this morning.
One other gal was "laid off" at TOB just like my wife. She is in a world of hurt. She is recently divorced, two girls in high school, her ex doesn't pay his support, and she has no reserve. Living in small town, USA, she doesn't know what she's going to do.
The branch manager is FREAKING OUT. They had nine (including herself) employees Friday. Today, two of them are "laid off", two of them quit, and one is out of state on vacation. That leaves four people to run a bank . . . the branch manager, a loan lady who needs her hand held on every little thing, a teller just out of high school, and on reliable teller. That's it . . . and today, they have new systems, new policies, and customers with questions knowing this major change is happening. Good luck to them.
At 8:00 this morning, my wife had to go to her new job to take pictures for a story about this new bank that will run in the local paper. She's probably going to take a week or so for a little break, then start up at this new bank.
We heard that another branch about the size of ours also laid off two employees. One of the ladies has worked for TOB 50 years. Even if it only averages two employees/branch, there are 69 branches. That is a lot of people let go. This is the largest bank failure in Nebraska history.
Wow. What a tough weekend. That is so not fair to Mrs. Web. She should kick some butt on the way out the door. Oh well, she will probably have clients from the old bank following her then.

Hi all! Thought I'd drop by and check in. Not a lot going on here; just waiting for my youngest girl to be done with school for the summer....her last day is Friday. Next week she's getting her Senior pictures taken and I'm glad to see the price has come down a little bit since my oldest girl had her's done 3 years ago. Guess I can thank the rough economy for that. Speaking of my oldest girl....she turns 21 on Wednesday, and I'd like to know when the heck I got so OLD that I have a 21 year old daughter??!!!! Anyway, I know she won't be heading out to the bars to celebrate because she hates alcohol and wants nothing to do with it...one less thing for me to worry about.
It's sunny here, but kind of chilly this morning; temp was in the 40s when I woke up, but at least it stopped raining; 3 days was enough.
Oh, yesterday a little birdie told me that the station will be up and running tomorrow through Friday night!! WOOT! WOOT! WOOT! Thanks JR! Hope the testing goes well!!
Wow Web, what a wild ride for Mrs. Web!! While I'm sorry to hear that her loyalty earned her a lay-off, I am happy to hear she has a new job to go to. That's a lot of employees throughout the branches to let go. I hope they'll all be as lucky as Mrs. Web in finding other work.
Good day, all. Monday it is, indeed. Not a lot going on here yet so I'll have to see how the day unfolds.
Got some painting done on the house over the weekend. Fortunately I really do like the colors I picked. It is hard to tell from the swatches what it will look like in practice, but I think it is going to look very nice when the house is done.
Web... hope this new bank job works out well for Mrs. Web. It does suck how the other bank did her. One would think that her services would have been valued... but at least they are by her former bank manager. Hopefully some of her long time customers will follow her over to the new bank and make it even more successful.
Mz... glad it was a nice walk for you.
Fuzzy... hope your day gets better. Funk on!
Ghost... glad you stopped by. Happy (early) birthday to the girl!

Wowee! Sounds like busy weekends for some! I wanted a quiet sleep-in weekend, but nope, didn't happen. Saturday was the Route 66 Blowout and I had to get Maranda downtown by 8 to help at a booth. She also entered the art show and place first with a watercolor of a dogwood tree and second with a black&white photo of a statue of the Virgin Mary. Sunday I babysat Dolly because Maranda had to work -- I'm glad to be at work where I can rest!
This morning Mr. DS and I went to the parent interview for Isaac's upcomming evaluation. His evaluation won't be until next month. Meanwhile, he started summer reading today.
Web, sorry that the Mrs. had such a stressful weekend! But I'm glad to hear that she has another job right away. Good luck to her!
Hope everyone has a beautiful day!
Smiles Everyone! Smiles!

Web - You should have convinced her to take the summer off and let the bank pay for it. The she couls have gone back to work when Web Jr. went back to achool.

I went home for lunch and it turns out that my wife ended up staying after the picture and looked at the new bank's software and things most of the morning. Since she only got a couple hours sleep last night, she is home this afternoon, but making phone calls.
Just adding up in her head of the people that told her they would bank wherever she's at, not keeping her as an employee is costing them AT LEAST $5 million in deposits.
Looks like a beautiful day here. Sunny & low 60's. THIS is what it should be every day. I'd be a very happy camper if that were the case.
I see Ghost kind of spilled the news already, but the request system will be available the next four days while I work on the APP & connecting to the station.
It's no-frills. the request system will work but without any graphics. If anyone wants to take advantage of it you're welcome too. I'll start working on it tomorrow evening and suspect it will be up until Friday night, but I'll mention something on the forum if that changes.
AT&T announced last week they're ending their unlimited data usage plan and capping all data, so this APP plan might all be for nothing anyway. Streaming audio wastes a lotta data.
