As in, "Please put the flowers in the vase."  I have a theory that the general public pronounces it differently than we're supposed to.  Kind of like "caramel."

I say vase, not vahse. If you know what I mean by my phonetic spelling.

With me, it is more or less price of the vase dependent. Most of the time it is "vase" to rhyme with "ace". If it is museum quality or costs thousands of dollars, then I think it rates the fancier "vahz" pronunciation.
