Sports Thread....sorry Star...NOT!

Sports...let's talk.

The Colts reported to camp today. Two-a-days start tomorrow. Everyone is in camp including Edge. But he has made it clear this is his last season with Indianapolis. However, no one here is surprised or crying about it. Give us you best for one year and see ya. Running backs are not as important as they once were, in my opinion.
They play in Japan in two weeks. Five weeks to the start of the season.
Ahhhhh.

My wife hates it.  I have direct tv, so I subscribe to Major League pass and NFL sunday ticket.

She especially hates it when I flip channels to catch all the games.

Ray,  there is no shame in talking football.

I dont know if I agree about running backs being less important, but I will say, these guys take a beating and lose a step after 5 years.  James may be leaving as his star wanes anyway.

I wasn't home one afternoon last week.  Running errands and she GAVE AWAY MY LOUNGE CHAIR. It was my favorite recliner to watch the games in.  She said it didn't match.  Why does it always have to match?  We are still fighting about that one, but she promised I can buy another one, so she can buy a new living room set that matches.  I guess that is one way to get the hubby to agree.

Sneaky...who is your team CP?  Chargers?

trivia...The Chargers almost wound up in Milwaukee, but Lombardi didnt want to share Milwaukee County Stadium with them and talked the Board out of granting the AFL team the right to play there.

Ok I'm crossing threads but if I hit it big with the lottery. My TV room would be set up like a bar with walls of monitors with everything on.
Dylan, I guess with Peyton throwing to three 1000 yard receivers it makes it less important in my book. Peyton and Edge run the play option fake better than anyone. It's what opens the defense for a big pass. I think you can find a back who can do the same. You're right about James might be on the down side of his career I think that's why most fans around here aren't too upset.
But the defense is where this team will be measured. It's got to be better than 29th for them to win in the playoffs. I'm ready for kick off.

That is a tough one.   I like several teams.

I am an old Cowboys fan--but like San Fransisco too.

I try to be a cheesehead, but they let me down too often.

I should not have said that.  I may be in trouble.

I can never understand why most women hate the sports talk.  I tried to describe to my wife what it was like to sit in the stadium as a kid when Hank Aaron hit the infamous home run--or to watch Rollie Fingers pitch.  She also doesn't understand my facination and collectable from the A.A.G.P.B.L.  I have met several of the players and they are fantastic to speak with.  dirt in the skirt.

Dave-
Since you want to be a truck owner do you like NASCAR as well as F1? How about the IRL? Next weekend is a racers dream in this city. Busch cars and Craftsman Trucks at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Friday and Saturday then the Brickyard on Sunday. Plus on Thursday the USAC Silver Crown Sprints at IRP. If you're a junkie this is the place to be.

You want to be a truck owner?  I have a Peterbuilt for sale.  I repoed it from a guy that owed me money.  It was cool for a little while.  I have it parked somewhere and will go there for a retreat in the cab for while. Engine on idle, tv on with microwave pizza and beer.

What is the Edge? The Edge plays guitar for U2. Any other edge is a chump. Let me tell you why Green Bay is so Great. SO that you who follow CHUMP teams understand.

When one thinks of the great tradition of the NFL- one immediately thinks of the Green Bay Packers and their many championship seasons as "the league" became "the league".

NO warm weather coddled baby teams can come up here and compete on the frozen tundra. Most other teams are whimps.

Brett Favre has been a shoe-in to the hall of fame since the first game he entered.

Unlike sooooo many other teams, it never crossed the minds of the residents here to EVER remplace the most sacred holy ground of football- Lambeau Field. We just made it better than ever.

Any and EVERY quarterback out there worships the ground Brett Favre walks on. He was these "little-peoples" inspiration.

The players on GreenBay are fully cognizant of the great tradition of football they MUST carry on, lest they be the one to sully that grand tradition of greatness.

Any loosing season GreenBay has had in the last decade could be blamed on injuries due to cheap shots delivered by 4th rate punks like Warren Sapp who cheat to win.

We own our team.

I could go on......and just might.

Dallas is a bunch of punks like coke-head Michael Irwin and punks like Dion. I'd be ashamed to have these punks "represent" me.

Chicago is all mouth and no talent. Been that way for years, and even in 1985 had to rely on freaks like Refrigerator Perry to tie up the loose ends on offence that not even Sweetness could pull off!!!

THE GLOVES ARE OFF!!! ARE YOU READY FOR FREAKIN FOOTBALL!?!?!?!??!?!

JD's feathers are ruffled. I love it!!!
I can't argue anything you've said about Green Bay. They are a great organization. I love the fact that kids give their bike to the players to get to and from the field during training camp. That is a great tradtion.
The Edge I know hits holes like a truck and runs like the wind. Hell, he may even play guitar.

Oh the fun we're going to have this season.

Only 1 stat matters. The win-loss column. I have had too many sports DORKS come up to me with obscure stats, studying trivia instead of living a life, trying to be the sports king of kings. Pfff GET A LIFE!!!! 1 stat matters- the win loss column. In perhaps his final year, Brett will be a pivotal part, but not the central part in 13 Packer wins. JD predicts. Here and now.

Megga NASCAR fan ,  BIG  F-1 fan  , watch IRL fan .   And once again your in the right place at the right time . lol    I think it's easier (?) to be a nascar fan, with the long schedule and all the tv ,  the beat em n  bang em  raceing, night raceing etc.  I like the F-1 for different reasons , the SPEEDS , the flat out HORSEPOWER , the skills of the drivers , the technology, the weekend stategy , traveling the globe etc.   The IRL needs to get back with CART ,  to many 1 mile ovals in there circuit and not enough drivers .

Dave, why did Cart and IRL split?  I am sure it was money...it always is.  But what was the issue that caused it?

I agree Dave they need to get open wheel racing back to one series. I think it will happen in the next 2-3 years. The IRL is trying to get fan interest up and Danica has done that. But they still need more name recognition. With the success of Andretti-Green and the Rahal-Letterman teams it is getting better.

It was about control. The CART loyalist thought Tony George and the Indianapolis Motor Spedway had too much power. They didn't like spending a month at Indy. There were fewer teams due to the cost of operating a team. George wanted to keep costs lower so more teams could compete. That's why he started the IRL. That's the simple explaination.

D -  believed it had to do with mechanical side as well , one side wanted to change this or that part or engine size and other side wanted all the same  on all the cars . even track owners were getting into the fray, i just remember it getting ugly .. then nascar started airing reguarly and i never looked back

Thanks Ray.

JD, I am with you.  CP, at the end of the year, one team is left standing...31 go home.  I played football for 12 years and the honor isnt always in the win but the competition.  Watching a team claw for 6 or 8 wins can be just as satisfying sometimes.

Brett has too many family issues and is too distracted.  I think he's going to hurt the team.
