To The Moon Alice!

With the woes that the space shuttle has had the last few years, I got to thinking about the space program.

The manned flights to the moon were truly the pinnacle of man's spirit of adventure.

We have benefitted from the technology in our everyday lives from transistor radios in the 60's to microwaves and computers today.

When the moon missions ended, we had the opportunity to continue onward to Mars, but the space shuttle took center stage at Nasa.  For the last twenty plus years, the program has stagnated and failed to capture the imagination of the American people.

Was this a military application of space?  What purpose has it really served?

With this having been said, should we:

Expand the space program's reach to explore deep space?

Just continue with the shuttle program, but run it better?

Use Nasa merely to launch satellites?

   Discontinue Nasa?

Have the military take over the space program?

One thing that I did like about Reagan was the whole idea of a star-wars defence system.

in a way the military is in charge , those aren't United pilots flying it ! But then again if Northwest pilots were , you could tell them Venus has a great happy hour and they'd get there quick !

But . . . did we really even land on the moon? Or, was it all fabricated and filmed in Area 51 to beat those Russians?

Web, did you see the movie Capricorn One?  It was that the whole thing was a hoax and we were never on the moon.  I thought it quite possible.

Yeah, that movie was based on the "hoax" theory. If you Google "moon landing hoax" and similar, you will find lots of arguments on both sides of the debate.

One of the issues are the radio transmissions. I understand that it should take eight seconds for a radio signal to get from earth to the moon. I've read that if you listen to the recorded radio transmissions, the delays are not there. ???? There are other issues as well like photos on the moon taken from different angles that have the same horizon, outlines of extension cords in the sand, the crosshairs which are in the lenses being behind objects, etc.

I'm not fully convinced it was all a hoax but there are some pretty good arguments.

Discontinue and focus on our problems here, unless they plan on making the space station a prison.
