Hey kids! It's jazz time! I see one birthday boy out there but who else is up for some jazz!! (okay, besides the dr. himself) Let's hear it for jazz 101!!!
WOW , A LITTLE SWING IN THE MIX ! I HAVE A COUPLE OF BENNY GOODMAN CD'S THAT ARE ABOUT WORE OUT. ONE HAS TUNES FROM '35 AND '36 ,MY FAVORITE ON IT IS CALLED - VIBRAPHONE BLUES , IT FEATURES THE LATE LIONEL HAMPTON AND IT WAS RECORDED LIVE !ALSO IN THE BAND ARE GENE KRUPA AND TEDDY WILSON . THE OTHER CD HAS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SWING TUNE - SING,SING, SING. I ALSO HAVE A DUKE ELLINGTON CD, IT WAS RECORDED LIVE IN LONDON IN '63 / 64 . IT FEATURES A SCAT VERSION OF - TAKE THE A TRAIN ,IT ALSO HAS A MY ALL TIME " SPECIAL PERSON IN MIND " SONG ON IT , -SINGLE PETAL OF A ROSE .
At any rate, JD, what's that song that you played two weeks ago that I said I liked...? I have a feeling I'll have to go back and look that up myself...
I did do a show after jazz 101 for about a month- it was called College Daze Revisited, where I pulled out the weirdest and wildest stuff I could find- Sun Ra followed by Johnny Cash followed by an Opera etc- genre free radio- but had to put an end to that cuz riggs has to switch the servers back, lock up, get home to bed cuz he has to work for the man now! I might have tried nuclear war there.......but heck ANY Sun Ra is dangerous!
