The Penguin eats fish

And I'm heading to lunch!  Day 1 of living healthier and hopefully dropping a few pounds.  I've only had one glass of water this morning, only 7 more to go!  How's everyone else doing?

Go Queenie!

I started to phase a few things last week. But it has not gone well. I have too many things at home that I should not have. I must use them before I go whole-hearted into this. Maybe next week. In the meantime, I always drink my water and I will pick up the exercise more.

Ok, obviously in my long absence from the board, I've missed some things.  Is everyone on a diet and/or trying to be healthier?  If that's the case, I'd like to know.  I've been on a weight loss program since June, and any support I can get would be awesome.

You got it somechick.

Some are trying to lose weight- others, like me just want to maintain. I could have 6-pack abs if I gave up my beer. BUT thats not going to happen. BUt yea Mz started on a plan and got others motivated too.

Outstanding.  Yeah, see my loss would be much more if I gave up the beer. I did give up the regular beers and now just hit the light beer, but it's not the same.

Well it's good to here there are others out there trying to get healthy.

does light beer actually make a difference?  I go back and forth. I like some regulars but love my miller lite.

Well I'll go into specifics a little bit. I've been on Weight Watchers since June 10th, and they calculate food in points. A regular 12oz can of beer is 3 points.  A 12oz can of light beer is 2 points.  You'd be amazed how much that extra point counts at the end of the day.

So, it doesn't seem like a lot, but in my world, it's huge.

Somechick, I did Weight Watchers before and lost 15 pounds.  And I've kept it off, even after going off of the plan.  So, I've decided to start it up again.  I gave myself a week to be naughty, and now I'm trying to change things one at a time.  This week I'm counting the points, and seeing how much I go over.  I'm also trying to drink 8 glasses of water a day, though if I start out with 6, I'll be happy.  Next week, I'll start following the WW a little more rigidly (I'm doing the Flex plan).

So far I'm down 12.2 lbs, which isn't quite as much as I'd like, but it's a start. I've tried to do the program before without attending the meetings, but I realized I can't succeed like that.  Now I go with 4 other people, and I feel the need to really watch everything and lose the weight.

The flex plan is what I"m on too. Though one of the girls in the group is on the core plan, and she's down like 23 lbs, and she only started 2 weeks before I did.  I really don't mind the point counting that much. It helps me put what I eat into perspective.  I think about what I eat now. I never did that.

What would really help is exercise, but I hate exercising. Ugh. What a pain.

MZ-

Be careful.  My mom is a dietician.  To only have water in the morning is dangerous. Breakfast is the most important meal.  If you do not eat regularly, you will still store fat, but lose muscle, which weighs more than fat.

The only way to lose weight is to eat, light, healthy, no sodium no fat etc.

Celery is also a free food.  You can eat as much of that as you want.

Don't rely on the scale, rely on how your clothes are fitting.

Be careful and I am rooting for you.

Yeah,  just water for breakfast may not be good.  I do recommend both the WW brand bagels & english muffins. They are both under 2 pts and actually taste very normal.

In fact, a lot of their foods have gotten really good to eat.  Good portions, good taste, totally worth buying.

Oh, trust me, I have more than water for breakfast.  I have an early lunch, so it's hard to fit much of a breakast in, but I always make it a point to have at least a cereal bar or granola bar.  I'm also a big fan of 4 small meals a day.  And high fiber, low fat.  And I MUST have variety.  My big problem is carbs, I love breads and pastas.  But there's no way I'm going on a low carb diet.  I just need to monitor what I eat a little more, and have more of a balanced diet, and I can do that on Weight Watchers.  And, I need to drink my water and exercise.

So, how much is a "glass" of water. I usually drink two 40oz mugs of water during the day plus another glass or two in the evening.

I was bad at lunch. The chocolate chips were open so I had a couple handfuls.

JD: Why settle for a six-pack of abs when you can have a whole keg!?!?

I have been cutting down on the portions that I eat, not so much of what I eat. I usually have better luck doing this.

MzHartz I'm just like you.  If I had the choice, I'd sit down with a loaf of bread and eat it all. That would be my meal.

And the same goes for an early lunch. 1130 on the dot.  I can't wait even 5 minutes.  My body's gotten used to that.

I try to cut down on some portions, but increase others.  Like cutting down on ice cream, but increasing fresh fruit, less pasta, more fresh vegetables.

Fresh, chewy, doughy bread straight form the oven, yum!

Yep, 11:30 here too, but not by choice.  We have to coordinate lunches so there's still people here to answer the phones, and I got assigned the early lunch.

I eat that early for 2 reasons 1) I'm hungry and 2) like clockwork, everyone here leaves at noon for lunch. That means they don't bother me during my lunch, and then I get another hour without them around.  It really works out quite well.
