The Teachings

I am not a Christian. But I really do admire these teachings of Christ:

-Forgiveness.

-Turning the other cheek when slighted.

-Respect for your fellow man.

You are a Christian JD, at least I believe you are. This poem may explain why:

Christians - By Maya Angelou

 When I say... "I am a Christian"

I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."

 I'm whispering "I was lost,

 Now I'm found and forgiven."

 When I say... "I am a Christian"

I don't speak of this with pride.

 I'm confessing that I stumble

and need Christ to be my guide.

 When I say... "I am a Christian"

I'm not trying to be strong.

 I'm professing that I'm weak

And need His strength to carry on.

 When I say... "I am a Christian"

 I'm not bragging of success.

 I'm admitting I have failed

And need God to clean my mess.

 When I say... "I am a Christian"

I'm not claiming to be perfect,

My flaws are far too visible

But, God believes I am worth it.

 When I say... "I am a Christian"

I still feel the sting of pain.

I have my share of heartaches

So I call upon His name.

 When I say... "I am a Christian"

 I'm not holier than thou,

 I'm just a simple sinner

Who received God's good grace, somehow!

Share this with somebody who already has this understanding, as
reinforcement. But more importantly, share this with those who do not
have a clear understanding of what it means to be a Christian, so that the
myth  that Christians think they are "perfect" or "better than others" can
be  dispelled.

May your day be filled with many blessings!!!

I agree with your sentiment too!

Christian means believing in Christ.  Like JD, I'm not Christian.  But, I also agree with many of the moral teachings of Christianity.  I don't think there's a word for that.

Just believing in the power of Love is an incredible start toward finding God.

That's just being a good respectful person who is courteous of others, has empathy, understanding, the ability to forgive, or to walk away.  Great teachings of Christ that should apply to all people!

Dylan is absolutely right!   One time we discussed in my small group at church that when you know love you know God.

Thank you for bringing us back to what is truly important, JD.  It's not about who believes in what but it is about the fact that we all believe those teachings and that is one of our commonalities and when we lose sight of that we lose begin to fall apart.
