A tribute to one of the most well known singers of our time.Elvis Presley dies at 42

Something struck me today ( plus it was on the news)

Elvis Presley. The worlds greatest artist of our time died 28 years ago this coming Tuesday August 16 1977.

Elvis Presley had 17 #1 hits between 1956-1969

Heart break Hotel #1 8 wks 1956

I want You I need you I love you #1 1 wk 1956

Dont Be Cruel/ Hound Dog #1 11 wks 1956

Love Me Tender #1 5 wks 1956 ( Became the first artist to succeed himself at #1)

Too Much #1 3 weeks 1957

All Shook Up #1 8 wks 1957 ( Elvis first #1 single in Britian)

It's Now or Never #1 5 wks 1960

Are you Lonesome Tonight #1 6 wks 1960 ( Highest debut for any Elvis Presley song debuted at # 35 and was #1 2 wks later. It also topped the British pop chart for 4 wks in 1961)

Surrender #1 2 wks 1961

Good Luck Charm #1 2 wks 1962

Suspicious Minds #1 1 wk 1969 ( Final #1)

between 1956-1969 Elvis was #1 for 79 wks. more than any other artist

While Elvis still had hits throughout the 70s ( Burning Love #2 in 1972 Kentucky Rain #16 in 1972 ) But he never had another #1

Elvis PResley gave 2  performances in  Omaha and Rapid City Nebraska June 19-21 1977 and his final performance in Indianapolis Indiana on June 26 1977.

On August 16 1977 Elvis was found dead in his bathroom and rushed to Memorial hospital. at 330 a.m he was pronouned dead.

There will never be another artist like Elvis. he gave the world some of the best known love songs that still hold the emotional impact today that they did back then.

                                                                   R.I.P Elvis

                                                                    1935-1977

We should have a day where Elvis can be requested as much as you like on Tuesday. To celebrate his life and music.

Nice tribute Thumper...wow...28 years ago already.

Great music is timeless.  We are still talking about his music almost 50 years after his career started.  He died too young but left us with a body of work worthy of being remembered.
