We're testing out a news feed again. 


It's a free service we can use, as long as we agree to include the 60 to 90 seconds of commericals in the broadcast.


We tried it early last year and I really liked it, but it was too much time wasted since it ran every hour.


Right now I'm testing it, trying to get it to run every three hours.  If it works we would have news updates at 6 AM, 9AM, Noon, 3 PM and 6PM.  I'll also set it eventually so it runs as close to the top of the hour as possible.


If it doesn't work we'll scrap it again.

ah! dave and ruby were commenting on it in the counting thread! I did like the sports update one, but remember how they stopped updating?? Like on football sunday they were giving thursday's basketball scores??

    I don't know gang, I kinda relx and escape with FFR , I'm not much for hearing about a teenage girl getting killed by a tiger , or a kid getting killed by a TV when I'm trying to let go,thats why i have fox news and cnn , the bad stuff when I'm ready to hear it .

Yeah Dave,


We basically heard the same thing last time we tried it from some of the listeners, that's why we aren't going to do it hourly.


By the same token though, people have told us that they tune us out throughout the day so they can get a little news, particularly when there's something big going on like waiting for the Peterson verdict, etc.


So, in the end we're just trying to strike a reasonable balance for everyone.

right now it's being played every hour around 20 after, and it's a 5 min block of news.  maybe 90 seconds every 3 hours is one thing, but it's like a long commercial break on radio.

is it going to be 5 minutes every hour, or will it be spaced about every 3 or 4 hours?

I know Riggs is trying to see if it can be like every 3 hrs, Anf. 9 am, 12 noon, 3 pm, another at 6 pm. No way would we want this to be an hourly thing! But a 5 minute update once every three hours would keep us all informed and updated of the world outside the Freeze Frame bubble, which would be a good thing, especially for important breaking news.

oh ok, thanks for the clarification.  Last night it broke into news roughtly 20 minutes after each hour for 5 minutes at a time, so I wasn't sure if you meant to do it hourly or every few hours.

It will take a bit of tweaking on our end, anf. I am sure Riggs was just testing to see if the feed came through as predicted; what the sound quality was like, etc. But that is a big concern here- to not lose the established "vibe" of the station through outside influence, (as you the listeners get to pick the songs and make it your station!), but to add to the quality of what's being offered!
