I am afraid I missed it. I may have heard the beginning before I walked away from my desk.

did you know that Laurie Anderson song was a #1 hit in England? lol.    I like her personally, but like Bjork and Yoko Ono, she's a little too "out there" for the average music fan.

I'll have to join the bandwagon on that one, I really didn't like that song. I like some pretty weird stuff, but that song was kinda annoying...

But, on FFR you have the freedom to request what you want. So whoever likes it, if you request it again, I'll just sit back and shut up.

Hey, come on.  Nothing shows the depth of 80's synth-pop wierdness like "Oh, Superman".  It hit in the only decade that would accept it.

Ouch I'd have to agree on this song being on the request list. thats way too long of a song and way too weird. I featured it ONCE on Underground 80's and it was even too long to listen to there, where you would expect the out-there stuff to be!

am I the only person who likes the song?  I happen to think it's a gem of a song and an example of a long song that doesn't get tiresome or boring (another example is "Station To Station" by Bowie which runs over 10 minutes and stays good, and some of Meat Loaf's songs too).   It's definately a cult classic and the only Laurie Anderson song that could be considered "commercial" by any stretch.

Personally, I was tired of it by the 2 minute mark. Maybe if it was presented to me in a different place and time I would think differently of it, but during the workday it just doesn't do it for me.

that's true.  O Superman would probably sound a lot better at the dead of night than during midday

Ouch... I didn't hear the song since I don't listen on Tuesdays if I'm too busy to counterbalance MBT, but guess I won't be requesting Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida to be added any time soon!

I'd be all for In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida! (In fact, I've got it at home on 8-track!)

oh darn, "Cambridge 1969" by John and Yoko's not on the request list.   LOL.     Over 30 minutes of John playing an untuned guitar with Yoko's vocal acrobatics.   I'm sure that'd be the #1 requested song here in no time, lol.

actually two songs from her 1980's pop period are up on the request list.   But it's not like we got anything like "Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's Looking For Her Hand In The Snow)" are on there, lol.

First, I've been very busy, so obviously I haven't been around much.  I'm trying to check in when I can, but things will probably progress slowly on the station as it is unfortunately not my top priority at the moment.

Second, I've removed the O Superman song from the request list because a lot of people were unhappy with it (forum and non-forum), I still think just about any song that's not rap (because it sucks) and classical (because it would be out of place) can be represented on our playlist, but I will cut O SUPERMAN down to a 3 or 4 minute version when I have time, then re-add it to the playlist.  I know 8 - 15 minutes of ANY song can be too much (unless of course it's Meat Loaf, in which case it can NEVER be long ENOUGH).

We've got some real growing pains going on right now, and the station is at a bit of a cross-roads.  The bigger we get the more complaints I get.  Our format of anything goes is sure to turn some people off, but the listeners we do have are pretty hard-core music fans that are open to just about anything.

Thanks guys.
