Sniper force feeding makes no sense

This does not make sense to me. Let him starve to death, it is a miserable death! He deserves to die. Why should we have to pay for him to live any longer. Why worry about trying him again??? Let him die! We would all be better off!

ROCKVILLE, Maryland (AP) -- A judge allowed corrections officials to forcibly feed convicted sniper John Allen Muhammad while he awaits trial in the county for six October 2002 killings.

Muhammad had not eaten anything since being transferred to the Montgomery County, Maryland, jail on Monday, corrections officials said in court documents filed Thursday.

He was apparently upset with the food he was being served and the handling of his legal material.

Doctors had concluded that Muhammad, 44, was at risk of serious injury or death of he continued his hunger strike, corrections officials said.

Judge James L. Ryan issued an order allowing officials at the county jail to forcibly feed and hydrate him.

Muhammad and Lee Malvo, 20, are accused of killing 10 people and wounding three in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., during an October 2002 shooting rampage.

Muhammad has already been sentenced to die following a 2003 conviction for a sniper shooting in Manassas, Virginia.

Malvo was sentenced to life in prison for a shooting in Falls Church, Virginia.

Montgomery County prosecutors plan to try the two men together for the shootings in their county, as insurance in case their Virginia convictions are overturned.

They will be returned to Virginia when their trial is over.

The two have also been linked to shootings in Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Washington state.

Ruby- I can see your point but ..., If he goes on a hunger strike and dies then he would be cheating the 'hangman noose' and that wouldn't be right for the victims or their families . It shouldn't be up to him to decide when and how he dies , Its the same reasoning as when H. Goering commited suicide at Nuremberg , he got the last laugh on his victims families . (it didn't work for Tojo thou , after he shot himself the Army saved him , for about a month .....)

I know Dave, but there is always the chance that he will live 10-15 years before they execute him, or possibly get his sentence overturned on some stupid technicality. If I was a family member, letting him starve would be aok!

I'm for the cheapest means - it's a joke that we tax payers end up flipping the bill for the medical expenditures. If we let him starve himself, eventually he'll be so out of it and debilated that the State will take the "humane" intervention involved in getting him better. All of his systems will be in ill repair, and for the term of his sentence we'll be paying for his liver and kidney meds. Forget that - force feed him the food he's complaining about and keep him healthy, and then take him out of the gene pool with as little inconveniece and cost as possible.

A real catch 22.  I say since he has already been sentenced to death, just put the needle in him now.

I agree with CP. What are we waiting for? That is the cheapest method, too. If we let him starve to death, someone would probably sue because it would be "cruel and unusual punishment."

aw you know what tho? I'd test him. Call his bluff.... I bet by day four he is screaming for a hamburger. Psycopaths only pose the pose until something within them bigger than ego or the strength of delusion takes over, like good old-fashioned hunger.
