Your Idol!!

I know at different times in my life I've had different idols and I was just wondering who some of yours' have been.

When I was in jr. high I absolutely loved Janet Jackson - during her 1814 Rhythm Nation Phase.

But I look up to different people for different things - I love Marilyn Monroe for the glam and her impact on society.  She made the size ten figure beautiful.

I had a really strong female role model for an english teach in high school and I looked up to her.  She taught me a lot about writing and myself and what it was going to be like in college and the literary classics.

So who are some of your idols and why?

This is kind of a no brainer for me, It would definately have to be the King of rock and roll. Elvis was a pioneer of his time. When music was How much is that doggy in the window, he came in kicked some a$$ and took names!

For most of my life it was John Belushi.

I'd have to say the last 5 years I no longer have any "idols".

Keith Richards. The sound! THAT SOUND!! That is the sound of rock and roll!

Ray Charles. That wail, that groove, that sadness, that happiness.

Neil Young. Them songs and that train wreck of a guitar sound!

Springsteen- Not a big fan of the born in the usa album, as it was overplayed, but the rest of the stuff is probably the best songs in the world. Probably rocks most underrated guitar player too. Heartwrenching lyrics. Next to the Stones, he and the e-street band are probably the most fun to watch on stage.

Miles Davis. THE sound of jazz.

I'd have to say I admired Billy Keller. He played for the Pacers in the 70's. I always liked him because he was a short guy playing basketball. I think he was listed at 5"11" but he's more like 5'9". He was hard-nosed but always a nice guy. One time dad took me and my brother to a game and afterwards we hung around for autographs. Billy stood and talked and signed autographs for 15-20 minutes. He is just a great guy.
Now he runs basketball camps and provides color commentary during the studio show of the Pacer road games. Since I work a lot of them I have gotten to know Billy. He's still a great guy and still has time for fans.

I don't think I've had any famous idols. Growing up, my idol was my uncle. I wanted to be an artist just like him. He showed me how to just hang back and not let things bother you. I learned how important it is to be yourself, and be an individual. Even when I was little, he treated me like a peer, not some little kid. He had the biggest hand in who I am today, and I'm proud of that.

Like JR, I don't really have any idols . . . but, if JD keeps playing Stanley Clarke on Sunday nights, I might be having one soon.

that's really cool, guys.  It tells a lot about who you are.  I have an "artist" uncle too, Mz.  He's my favorite uncle - hands down.

Mine would have to be my grandpa.  He was a statesman--in the House of Representatives.  I thought he had the patience of Job and the Wisdom of Solomon.  Everyone loved him--

Growing up it was Tom Seaver of the NY Mets and Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves.  I had a chance to spend time with Hank when I was grown and it was surreal!

I used to be able to shake it down until my knees touched the stage, I guess that's what happens when you get old.

Very cool that he's so good to his fans, and very cool that you've gotten to know him after years of being a fan.  Nothing beats that, right?!  (Well, unless after knowing them, you sorta wished you hadn't...  But not the case here, so very cool!)

Nice choices, JD.  Very classic too.

That is so nice!  You're a lucky girl, there.
