Internet Explorer and your Clipboard

Here's a little security tid bit for you.

Did you know that if you are using Internet Explorer to browse the web, a web site owner could see what is on your clipboard? The last thing you copied to cut or paste can be visible to the site without you knowing it.

Check this out:
Highlight and copy this line of text to your clipboard.
Now go here: Clipboard Test Site

If you are using IE, you likely are seeing that line of text. If you are using Firefox, your clipboard is safe from prying eyes. One more reason to use Firefox!

If you want to stay with IE, you can close this "feature". Here's how:
1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools>>Internet Options.
2. Select the Security tab.
3. Under Web content zones, select Internet.
4. Under Security level, click the Custom Level button.
5. Under Scripting, you'll see a setting labeled "Allow paste operations via script." For that setting, select Disable and click OK
6. Finally, click OK on the next window.

And that is your Internet Security lesson for today.

I use Avant but it is basicly an IE overlay and the line went right through.
I changed the setting, rechecked and it was blocked.

Thanks WebGuy!

What would be be best way to share your tip with others?

Hey Maple . . . If you want to share that tip, you could give the url of this post which will help make the forum more active . . . Or, you can copy and paste it into an email. You'd probably have to fix the links if you email it.

You can just highlight it and copy it right off your address bar here in the browser.

Yeah, thanks Mizz! . . . I have most everything directly bookmarked outside of the frames and didn't even think about that. Thanks for being on the ball!
