Good day, all. And so it is here... honestly, the heavy snow hasn't started here yet. Just heard on the news that DFW Airport is closed and that Tulsa and Oklahoma City are already getting pounded.
I just woke up a bit ago, so I still need some caffeine. Already checked my e-mail from work to see if the "pee-mail" has arrived... not yet.
Hope everyone has a great day... be careful out there!

I've been up for a while with a tooth that went from discomfort to full on pain. After some research, it looks to be the symptoms of an abscessed tooth. I'm glad I already have an appointment for 10:15. The question is what will have to be done. The tooth in question is mostly filling already, so that may make a difference in treatment. We'll see what happens. I'm a weenie when it comes to the dentist.
School has been cancelled for today. We don't have much snow, but it's currently -8 with a wind chill of -36. Brr.

Every school in the KC Metro area sent out closing notices yesterday, as did most of the schools in Missouri and eastern Kansas. Presently, the temp is 12*, with the wind chill making it -4*.
Amusingly enough, Kev is trying to get ready to leave for work. He has given up on the idea of making the 200 mile run he was supposed to do today... that would send him right into a mess... but he is planning on doing his normal Friday local run. This is assuming he can get into his truck... check that... I hear the engine running. Well, bless his pointy little heart, I hope he doesn't slip and fall.

Everything around here is closed today. I'm at the office right now, and the roads were clear. I did slide into my parking space. I'm not sure if I scraped the ice off of my windshield to get in, or just buffed it enough to see through. The areas around us got a lot more ice than we did, but they're promising more for later. Everything is closed, even IU. I figured I'd come in for a while just to get the files I need, then when it starts freezing rain again, I'll head back home.
Luckily I don't live far from work. And The Etch left one of her grandsons' sleds here. So worst case scenario, I could just slide home on that. It'd probably be quicker than driving.
Morning all. I hope you snowbound people stay warm and in your house. We didn't get the amount of snow they said, but we did get the early ice. Like Mz, we are due to get pounded with the ice later. At least for me, the bad stuff is supposed to be late tonight and overnight. I can get a full day in and prepare extra time in case I don't get here or get here very late tomorrow morning. I may aim for 11am tomorrow since they rush hour will be bad because of the overnight stuff and then it is supposed to turn back to rain. I can still easily do an 8 hour day if I don't get here until 11. Fun.
In the meantime I'm off to crunch some more year end numbers. Work on.

We got about 5 inches last night, though it looks like a foot and a half out my patio door because of drifting. It's lake-effect flurries now with the big storm supposed to kick in around 3 tonight.
So I'm gonna get some stuff ready to ship, then head to the post office and bank before it gets too bad.
Looks like things are starting to get a bit worse here. There still isn't a lot of snow on the ground... maybe an inch so far, but the wind sure is picking up. Visibility looks to be about 1/4 - 1/2 mile at the moment.

JR - you better take the snowmobile to work tonight.
Or a sled!
I'm actually enjoying our first real storm of the season. I just hope it doesn't snow next weekend for the trip to Green Bay. I HATE taking long drives when it's snowing.
You kidding? I'm not planning on setting foot out that door until I absolutely have to. Since work is kinda dead today, I'm sealing up the house a little more. Finally getting around to putting plastic over the kitchen windows.

Back from the dentist, and baby it's cold outside.
Well, after not going to the dentist in a LONG time, I'm both surprised and not surprised.
One good thing is that he didn't think the tooth has nerve damage, it was just cracked. It had already been drilled out when I was a kit to where there is not enough left to fix. Although the back one next to it wasn't hurting, he said he could see cracks in it too.
So, I now have two temporary crowns on that side.
I have a back tooth on the other side with a broken/missing filling. He said we'll have to crown that one too.
Then, there is one other old filling that needs repaired.
The good news is that after all those years, I only had one cavity and that was right next to the tooth he crowned so it's already fixed too.
More trips back for permanent crown, another crown and fix an old filling and I'll be in good shape again.
I'm NOT surprised about crowns. My last dentist warned me that those teeth would probably need crowns about this time in my life.
Kev just decided to call it a day and come home. He says that on the highway about 3 miles west of us (K-7) it is down to about 1/4 mile visibility and that it is impossible to keep the ice from building up on the windshield wipers. Apparently most of the car dealerships he works with and several other businesses have decided to close for the day as well. My mom's office is closed for the day... she works for a contractor for the US Dept of Immigration and Naturalization.
The storm has definitely picked up here in the last hour. There is about 3-4 inches of snow on the ground right now and the snow is blowing horizontally.

While other people are flooding the stores for milk and bread, Brian just went across the street for cigarettes and brought home a bottle of wine for me. The man knows his priorities.
I got the groceries and liquor stocked up over the weekend. Didn't want to mess with the last minute grocery store rush.
Just saw a snow plow go down my street for the first time today. Looks horrible out there.
MSNBC dubbed this storm "The Death Storm" earlier. A bit dramatic, don't you think? Yes, there have been a few fatal car accidents in KS and MN, but really... The Death Storm?

Well... I just had to help a random stranger get un-stuck from in front of my house. I don't know what possessed this guy to try to turn around on a side street that clearly hasn't been plowed.
Anyhoo.... since I was out there, I measured the snow. 12 inches in the driveway. 7 inches on top of the Excursion's hood.

Hi guys! It hasn't started snowing here yet, but the wind is beginning to kick into high gear. We're supposed to start getting snow around midnight at a rate of 1 to 3 inches per hour through late tomorrow afternoon with winds of 35-40 mph. Most of our schools have already cancelled classes for tomorrow; my oldest girl is hoping the library will close too so she won't have to venture out in the morning.
Mema, is it still snowing in your area??
JR, hope you'll be able to make it home in the morning!
Hope everyone stays safe during this monster storm!!
You are supposed to stay bundled and cozy in the house. What are we having for dinner?
I would have, but I figured he would eventually get himself lodged in my front yard. Thought it would be better to help dig him out than to have a Nissan Altima shaped lawn ornament for the next week.
Stuffed shells for dinner. Got plenty if you can make it here.
