I notice a lot of the songs in my mix are there because they remind me of something specific. What songs take you to a different place and time?
Right now, I'm listening to Joyride by Roxette, and I'm riding the Himalaya at the St. Joseph County 4-H Fair. The Himalaya was the ride that had cars that looked like sleds and went really fast around a circle while going up and down little hills. If you were the person sitting on the outside, you got crushed by the person sitting on the inside (or two people sitting on the inside if all 3 of you could fit in a seat).
I've always told people that I never kept photo's because to me music is my scrapbook. Almost every single song I know has a very strong memory of some sort attached to it. Not necessarily and important memory, just a strong connection to a moment.
Off the top of my head, since you mentioned Roxette. I always think of my sister when I hear Roxette's "How Do You Do? When my sister was too young to drive I'd pick her up a lot of times when I went shopping and let her go with me. I remember us playing that song over and over and singing along because she liked it. She wanted to sing the main part and wanted me to sing the background, which is basically just repeating "How Do You Do?" about 100 times. I played along. It's a fun memory now.
I'm kind of like JR in that songs generally remind me of specific people. When I hear Santana's Oye Como Va I will always think of me and Pambo dancing in Parking Garage O on the Sprint Campus... she got busted by some other people going to their car. Murray Head's One Night In Bankok reminds me of her to just because she hates that song so badly. AC/DC's Back In Black reminds me of me, Pambo, and Little Man working on Hurricane Katrina cleanup... it was out theme song.

Everyone seems to have a memory, good or bad, associated with "Wonderful Tonight" by Elton John. What's yours?
At the cafe where I met Brian at, before we met, me and some girl friends went there one night to hang out, listen to the music, and play cards. A couple guys came to hang out with us, Little Joe (not his real name) and Joe Strange (which actually was his real name). It seemed like every other one of the girls was flirting with one of the two Joes except me. But as we left, Joe Strange asked for my number. I didn't give it to him at the time. And on the ride back, one of my friends asked me to pass her number along to him.
So the next time I went to the cafe, I passed her number on to him, and again, he asked for mine. I caved in and gave it to him. When the musician on stage played Wonderful Tonight, he asked me to dance with him, and I did. We ended up giving each other a kiss goodnight. By the way, I had a boyfriend at the time, and I had told that to Joe Strange up front. And repeated it on every date we had.
I ended up dating him for two weeks, then told him no more. On Valentine's Day. I wasn't even very nice about it, not very diplomatic. Really, talking to him was like talking to a statue, I'm surprised I went on more than one date with him.
So Wonderful Tonight makes me think of cheating on my boyfriend with a guy that was so not worth it, dating the guy my friend liked, and ditching the guy on Valentine's Day.

And here we'd always assumed it was because you were so funny lookin'

Mz asked about "Wonderful Tonight"... reminds me of a Christmas party I went to with the wuzband years ago. It was given by the company he worked for... we were told that it was a semi-formal event. So I went with the definition of "semi-formal" that I grew up with as the daughter of a Marine Corps officer, hence I ended up WAY overdressed as compared to everyone else. As the evening went on, it got slightly more horrible when I found myself being hit on by the wuzband's boss... not an attractive man and his wife was none too amused either. Somewhere in the evening, the wuzband and I danced to that song, had way too much to drink, and I vaguely remember driving us home and smoking a cigarette... unusual because I don't smoke. Never did.
