Did you catch George?

Bush, not Lopez?

I watched most of it and I thought he was great. Right on in almost everything he said. This is going to be the hugest undertaking ever in the US. We are up for it, but it will take awhile and he needs everyone behind him. I thought he did a great job comparing to the dust bowl and other disasters that we have come back from -Go George Go!

Aw man, I missed ol' DUBYA!

Hopefully FOX will be replaying the best parts of the speech tonight.

I don't care what anyone says, I think we're incredibly fortunate to have that man leading us over the past six years.

I shudder to think how someone like Gore would have handled terrorism.

JD,

I realize you were being sarcastic, but you actually are DEAD on.

The man is saving you (and all liberals like you) from yourself. Trust me, if you had your way for two straight administrations we'd be annihalated. Although the environment may be cleaner. We'd be dead, but the rare Zimbalu Purple Orchid would live on.

I didn't watch it. I gave my daughter a bath instead. I figured that I would read all of the distortions of it in the liberal media and just take everything they say and believe the exact opposite.

MAN would that be sweet!

ANOTHER four more years.

Do I smell a constitutional amendment in the making?

Answers to your questions.

1) The economy is thriving despite the fact we have endured the worst terrorist attack on US soil in human history and the worst natural disaster on US soil in our history.

2) The soldiers will stop dying in Iraq when the mission is accomplished. That's what the military does. It sheds it own blood to acheive the goals of a nation. The loses are saddening, but in the big picture this has still been one of the least deadly battles we've fought, particularly when balanced against the lofty goal we are working toward.

3) President Bush took the unprecedented step of declaring a natural disaster emergency nearly four full days before landfall. A 200+ page evacuation plan went unused by local officials throughout the event. Bush probably WAS a little slow to react, but not by three days, by a day at most as he assessed the situation. The rest was mobilization and orginization time.

Now go back to your "Life should be perfect" coloring book and do your best to stay inside the lines you FLAMING BLEEDING HEART LIBERAL CRY BABY!!!!!

Just kidding JD You know you're my buddy. I didn't mean the "stay inside the lines" part. You idealistic libs gotta be free to work outside the lines. I know that

Clintons inattentiveness to the problems at hand are what led to the problems we have today.

He also was the beneficiary of the internet bubble that he had nothing to do with, but burst just before he left office.

By the way folks. JUST SO YOU KNOW. JD is a good friend of mine. We jab at each other all the time. My earlier post was not MEAN SPIRITED. I'm just having fun with my buddy

We strongly disagree on politics, but I can honestly say I beleive we both respect each others opinions.

I can't say that I agree with the whole "Bill Clinton was in office for 8 years and did great" spiel. What did he do when osama and his buddies bombed the U.S.S. Cole. Nothing. It could have been taken care of then, but he didn't do it. I guess Hillary wouldn't let him. He did balance the deficit as I've heard so often. Oh, but wait. He did that by putting an IOU in the social security account. Good one, Bill. We won't need that money after all, right?

I lived with Bill Clinton as Governor of Arkansas for four years. He works well off of the work of others. He had high school and college kids writing a lot of the wonderful bills that he got credit for and called it the Arkansas Student Congress of Human Relations. That was genius. We learned about politics and made him president.

I love you, JD. But I don't agree with your politics. Big smooch. I'll wait for your reply. I know it will be good.

Every since Clinton left office something seems to be missing . . . .

Maybe it's just the Presidential Oval Office Orgies with Interns that seems to be lacking now. Oh yeah . . . and the lies to the American Public that "I didn't do it" . . . "Well, I did it but didn't do THAT".

1. He is just showing his daddy that he can finish the job that his daddy couldn't with Saddam. And he is finding out that he can't. Wouldn't a single bullet from a well placed CIA gun have been a more effective way to dispose of Saddamn than over 1000 soldiers lives, meanwhile thosands of others are sitting there like fish in a barrel trying to help a people who hate them. thats brilliant.

2. There was always the threat of foreign terrorism. You republicans like the military money. Where is Osama and why didn't the bush administration take the clinton administrations warnings seriously?

3.  4 days is unacceptable. they are still pointing fingers. Meanwhile people died as red tape was layed all over the place. Sure am glad it wasn't Milwaukee.

I thought we were going to avoid politics here on the forum.

how can you say the economy is thriving while there were 390,000 new unemployment claims filed last week?

Why would we avoid politics in the forum??? It is an intricate part of all of our lives. If you choose not to discuss it, then go to the next post. Otherwise, I enjoy hearing everyone's views.

JD he took four days to respond because the local and state government declined his initial help. Nothing like this has ever happened. No one was prepared. I am sooo sick of the blame game. Get over it and fix it. As long as they learn from their mistakes we will be better prepared if this ever happens again.

I am thinking too that the unemployment claims were high last week because in the three affected states there are a lot of unemployed people???

I'm neutral, It's easy for everyone to blame everyone else, but I'm sure the job at hand is not an easy one and can be done alot easier if everyone would quit yelling in their ear while they are doing it. So if you think you can do it better put on your best clean shoes because they are gonna get dirty and empty your pockets because they are gonna get full of BS and step up to the plate!!!

Disclaimer: Everything just said was Sparky's alter ego Spanky and should not be taken as a slam against anyone he was just nocked a little silly in the last struggle to gain control of the world!

Is the econmy thriving enough to be able to absorb that many new unemployed and give them the chance to apply for good jobs and start new lives? By good jobs I do not mean McDonalds.

How comforting is it to those who lost their lives, loved ones, homes, jobs, minds that this will be the template for knowing how to "move forward" in the future?

I believe that he was trying to let those who refuse to leave the area know that they will rebuild and if they choose to wait, eventually they can go back home. JD you are acting like this is Bush's fault!!! He is just a figure head in this anyway. Nothing will be done without our representatives' approval.

I doubt the job market is ready for this, but how could it have seen it coming. The job marker will be booming there very soon and is really aalready with all of the clean up and rebuilding to be done. The people who are there to rebuild will need to eat, entertain themselves and other things that will drive a demand for jobs.

Ruby,

You have to understand that a die hard liberal like my good buddy JD simply HATES George Bush.

He hates him with such a passion that he will put the blame on him for anything he possibly can.

When Michael Moore came out with Fahrenheit 911 all I heard from JD for weeks was how I had to see it. I had to see how horrible of a man George Bush was.

I knew from previous Michael Moore films that everything he does is out of context and manipulated to endorse his own agenda, so I took it with a grain of salt.

Eventually I did watch the film, and without even knowing some of the details I could tell it was obviously a minipulative peice of crap. It drove me nuts that it was treated by the mainstream press and liberals as a "documentary" when in reality it was just a 90 minute propoganda peice.

Well. Several people tried to set the record straight by putting out a film called "Fahrenhype 911". THAT MOVIE followed the exact time-line of Moores crap-fest and one by one gave the TRUTH and the EVIDENCE OF THAT TRUTH that was lacking from it's predecessor. ALL OF IT could be followed up on if you didn't beleive it. In the end it disproved 95% of Moores charges.

JD refused to watch it, and I'll bet he never will. Why? Because democrats and liberals HATE George Bush and are so blinded with their own hatred they can't see straight.

This was a war for oil. What? We didn't take their oil fields?

Oh, ok, where the hell are the WMD's then? BUSH LIED! Never mind Russia, the UN and Great Britain ALL SAID HE HAD THEM. Never mind that we're looking for items that could be as small as a bottle of nail polish that could be buried ANYWHERE in a desert the size of California. Never mind that we gave Saddam a years notice we were coming in while we fended off the whiney liberals that tried to stop us. Never mind that for nearly three months we had troops literally on his doorstep waiting to go in. He COULDN'T POSSIBLY have had those weapons. HE HONESTLY DID DISPOSE OF THEM AFTER KILLING ALL THOSE INNOCENT IRAQIS IN THE 90'S.

NO, the ONLY POSSIBLE solution is that George Bush, the great anti-Christ, KNEW everyone was wrong and LIED so he could kill American men and women.

THAT'S THE LIBERAL VIEW?

Does that sound like a sane American to you?

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH!

By the way Ruby.

We had said we wanted to keep politics off the board because they can be so decisive.

I can honestly say that no matter how hard JD & I debate (and during the campaign trail we were like rabid dogs) it doesn't change my view of him and I don't beleive it changes his view of me.

In the end we're both just hard working guys that can talk a lot but neither of us are doing anything to make a real difference.

Not EVERYONE can do that. Some people get ugly when they get into a political discussion and we don't want the board to get divided.

However, over the past few months there have been A LOT of conversations that don't interest me, and I just skip them. I don't think it's asking too much that other people do the same, so you feel free to bring up politics anytime you like!

If we had to, we could go back to the old forum style that allowed us to categorize the threads, that way if someone didn't want to talk politics they would never even need to see the threads.

Riggs's political opinions do not affect our friendship. We accept the fact we do not see things eye to eye politically. Beyond that, he is one of my closest friends.

I try to not let myself get baited into political discussions especially on the forum, because one point of view is going to tick someone off who has an opposing point of view; and they simply might not return.

It reminds me of when I worked in a hardware store in high-school. Oh how the politicians pleaded to let their signs be hung in the window. No way, bad for business.

That being said however, I did not refuse to watch Farenhype 911. But I haven't watched it. I get sick of words. And it was not Michael Moore's opinion of anything that affected me in his movie. It was simply the people- the mom crying for her dead son who died in a war she did not believe in. The Iraqi mother crying to God for her family as well. The human toll, in spite of political or religious beliefs.

The President has "accepted responsibility" for the inadequate federal response to the emergency situation in the southern golf states. Even tho I believe he is simply trying to save face in front of the camera, lets let him accept responsibility for the inadequate and untimely federal response. As a tax payer, I am appalled that red tape cost people their lives. Especially in a post 9-11 world.

Don't get me started. I thought I liked you JD.  Please note that the economy of the Clinton years followed the presidency of Reagan/Bush.  Clinton then destroyed it by the end of his sixth year and now it's up to W. to fix it.  The only problem is that he won't get the credit he deserves becasue by the time he makes up for the clinton enron's, he will no longer be in office.

Watch the pattern.  good economy--follows republican president.  good economy destroyed during democrats.

I get to say it too, as someone, who once lived in Wisconsin and voted democratic all the way.

Let's illustrate it this way.  The stout democrat daughter comes home for vacation from college.  She preaches her liberal ways to conservative idiot republican father.

Father says--little girl I understand exactly whay you are saying.  Tell me more about your freind Lisa.  Daughter reports that Lisa is not doing well and only getting D's.

Father asks, so how are you doing?  She says she continues to work hard and maintain her A's. So the wise father says to the daugter, I have a great idea.  Why don't you allow some of your grades over into Lisa's.  That way you can bring her D up to a C or better yet you both can have a strong C+ to B- average.

That's not fair--I worked hard for those grades while Jill did not.

"Welecome to the world of republicanism" says dad.

Hey if you all like the way things are then, fine! Keep believing good old G.W.  I don't, and I don't have to, and personally I can't believe how anybody can.

Look, there are at least 3 benchmarks to a successful presidency. A strong economy, a strong national defence, and the ability to react competently and strongly during times of national emergency....(cricket......cricket.....cricket......) I admit GW has been met with much more adversity than Clinton; I was no Clinton fan. I knew he was a scumbag. But look at the bottom line. America under Clinton was brilliant. The Soviet Union was now a friend, the economy was booming, social security was saved for genations to come, & for the first time in my lifetime there was a federal surplus instead of a deficit.

There's no ifs ands or buts in business; what's important is the bottom line. The Feds take a nice piece of my paycheck and yours each and every week. I demand better! I demand competence, I demand security, I demand truthfullness. I demand action, not words. That is what I am paying for. That speech last night was a piece of scripted crap.

Now, 'scuse me while I go pay $2.89 a gallon for gas, then come home and read about how anyone who hates the americans in their home country are deemed "insurgents", watch about how another car bomb went off killing the innocent, watch the search for bodies in new orleans continues in nursing homes where a "please help us" sign still hangs from a window, read how the real estate bubble is going to burst, read this quarters flat 401k statement, been flat for 4 yrs; I've been really kind to bicyclists as there are so many of them these days......

These last 4 years have been an absolute nightmare. I blame those responsible for running the country.
