Doctors

Do you go when you are sick or suffer?

I still have something wrong with my sinuses. I was sick a week, broke down and went to the doctor, finished my ten day prescription and here I sit 7 days later and I feel the same. Now I do not want to go back. Maybe, if like in the old days when rechecks were no charge, I might go back. But to pay again?? I do not know. I do know one thing, being sick is no fun and neither is paying for the doctor or missing more work!

I usually try some OTC stuff and see what happens.
I do have an advantage since my wife was an RN and now works at the small health center where I go.

I only go to the doctor when I am dying.

Ruby - sometimes if you just call in and tell them you are still the same, they may just renew the perscription without having to see you. Because the doctor is always packed and an appointment is never available, I am usually pretty good that if I call - usually when I have bronchitus (sp) - they will call in the perscription. I guess that is because I generally get it once a year, if not every two years, and they know me enough to know that I know. It is so much easier that way. It doesn't cost me $5, my time and his time when I already know what the diagnosis is.

I called and they want me to come back in. I said I would call back to set up a time. I am getting ready to fib and say I can't make it this week, but I need some relief. However, my prescription was an antibiotic and I am done with those! I am still doing Advil cold and sinus and Nasonex!

I used to not go at all, I hated going to the doctor but about five years ago after becoming really sick, losing 50lbs.  a blood transfusion and a week in the hospital I go quite a bit more often now.

That sucks. Sometimes the first round of antibiotics isn't enough or the right one. I have been there. I can understand them wanting to see you though.

I think that is why they want you to come back.
Ten days of antibiotic should kill any bug so they need to check what else could be wrong.

Just depends on how bad it is. If I think I have an infection, I will go pretty soon to get started on the antibiotics. Colds/flu, nah, I don't go. Depends on what the symptoms are and how bad I'm suffering.

Last winter, when I stuck my hand in the snow blower, took my glove off and saw a fingernail laying in the palm of my hand, I decided quickly that it would be a good time to go to the doctor.

I used to get broncitis 3-4 times every year. I got a pneumonia shot three years ago and haven't had bronchitis since.

I need to get a regular doctor so I can do that, Fuzzy. I only go when I know I need a prescription or if I don't know what I have. The problem is, I don't go until I am absolutely sure, so I end up going to Promptcare, so I never get a regular doctor. But they've been pretty good there. I can usually go in and say, "I have a sinus infection/uti/etc." I sit in the waiting room for over an hour, then the doctor finally says, "Yep, you have it." Then, he's given me a prescription for the antibiotic, but he gives me refills so I don't have to come in again when I get another. The last time I went in it was for a strange rash, he didn't know for sure what it was, and pretty much said, "Here, take this antibiotic and we'll see if it works."

There was one time that I kept getting a sore throat, and kept saying that I was not going to go to the doctor for a sore throat. When it finally got bad enough that I took a day off work, I went to the doctor and found out I had an infection in my throat. So, I probably should go more and get a regular doctor, but I don't think about it when I'm well!

Ask the Doc about Biaxin. It is an expensive anti-biotic but very effective. Or, Z Pack. I am luck--I can buy all this stuff over the counter in Mexico.
