Then again, the media is the same way. We can't keep a government secret if our lives depended on it (and usually it does.) The media has to put it out there on the 5 o clock news. There are just some things I'd rather not know. If it's keeping me safe, fine. Don't tell me about it. Just do it.
As much as it seems to be free speech, the harmful effects outweigh the supposed good. We are supposed to be protecting our police and agents, after all, they are the ones doing their best to protect us from the evil in the world. Say what you will about the saying it is used for defense attorneys, but I believe that this site is nothing but a stopping ground for criminals. They watch who they do business with and where. Unfortunately, there are probably worse fears that can be confirmed, that criminals use this site as a hit list. After any type of undercover agents are exposed, they are no longer good for police work. This ruins careers.

I have to question how complete their database really is though. I searched "Nebraska" and came up with no results. You can't tell me there are no under cover agents or informants in this state.
I guess I'm saying that I don't think something like this that could undermine the efforts of public safety or law enforcement should be allowed. But, I still wonder if they are really making a difference in the grand scheme of things.
I don't agree with this website at all. First, if these people are informants, this puts them in danger. I browsed around it a bit, but from all the profiles I saw, maybe one was real. It looks like if there's someone you don't like, you can put them up without any evidence that they really are an agent or informant. So, this puts innocent people in danger as well.
Free speech and all, I don't think the website should be shut down, but if they claim it is for lawyers, a user should have to register to even look at the profiles and provide proof of their credibility.
I think the fear is that it will continue to grow, and to be honest, I could therefore be part of the problem.
I originally heard this topic on a local radio talk show late last week. That station reaches tens of thousands in the area. Obviously we reach only 100+ at best right now, but the point is that just by talking about it you're making it better known. With that growth it may well take off and become a real problem.
I guess I feel safe talking about it, because in all honesty are any of our 100 or so listeners that are sitting at work right now likely to be criminals that would take shots at a cop or an informant?
But when it's being talked about on broadcast radio and tv, it WILL spread.
Also, I haven't checked it out thoroughly, but I'm sure on the streets of NY, Miami, LA, etc it's A LOT better known than on the streets of any Nebraska town.
I completely agree with you JR. It could grow to be a real problem.
Molly, brings up a good point too . . . I hadn't even considered the idea of posting someone on the site just because you don't like them.
I still think it should be shut down. This whole "free speech" thing has gone too far. If something is harmful, it should not be allowed under "free speech".
I don't think this site falls under the free speech category. It is endangerment and deformation of character. Especially on those like this one that is obviously false. I can say, "Webguy murdered his postman," and technically, although free speech, it's illegal because it's not true.
Ya know if they are going to have sites like this they should make it so only lawyers can access it.
For example did you know there is an totally other internet that only dr. can access. And another ex. my bro - is in law school and only law students can enter this site that gives you a background check on people if you have their name and dob.
So this is probably a bogus site - but like I said I haven't seen it.
I mean if all of us can access it and add to it - c'mon how "official" is it.
