I had a dream last night that I had won 4 million pounds on the lotto, It got me thinking that if you were to win the lotto what would be the first thing you bought, I think that mine would be a selection of pool and snooker tables for a games room, I would have to buy a house to put them in first but after that thats what I would buy, I have always wanted a cool games room, with a juke box, pool table, snooker table, pinball machine, and some video games, thats my idea of heaven.
So if you were in a position of having more money than sense what would you buy?
Powerball is over $200 million and Hoosier Lotto is over $12 million. If I hit Powerball I would build 2-3 satellite trucks. They cost around $5 to build but they would recoup the cost inside of 5 years and then everything beyond that is upkeep and profit. It's hard to lose money on that when those trucks are in such demand all over North America.
If I hit the Hoosier Lotto I'll upgrade my house. Buy new houses for family, if they would like new houses. Set up college scholarships for the niece and nephew. Install lights and blacktop parking at the soccer complex. I'd give the band enough money that they could set up their non-profit fund so parents wouldn't have to pay band fees and set up at least 10 scholarships for the band kids.
Of couse I would do the same with with the $200 million but on a grander scale.
Of couse my FFR friends would benefit too. Week long party with Huey Lewis and the News playing the tunes. I'd fly everyone in. Golf in the afternoon. Shopping for the gals. Nice dinner at night...Thumper you just show up and leave the cooking to Wolfgang and Emerill!!!
I havent purchased a lotto ticket in quite a while but I think I would set up a recording studio with all the amenities. I would hire the best engineer and producer I could find and then tour to support the albums I was making.
I am not sure what charities I would support, but I think that is important...Ray is right...you have to share your good fortune.
Family and friends would benfit from the windfall too.
I would want a god tax advisor...Uncle Sam can be a greedy family member
I'll agree with D on that one, the first thing I would do is hire an accountant. I probably wouldn't quit my job, but I would switch to part time and working from "home". (Home being wherever I may end up that day!) Then I'd buy me a good laptop with a wireless connection. Then, once I've got the money rolling in, I'd start handing out the goodies: scholorship for my sister, donations to COTA, ranch for my mom and stepdad, bed and breakfast in Key West for my dad and stepmom, purchase a top quality studio and hire JR and JD as DJs, build a resort just for FFR members...
FIrst thing I would do is invest the money so it keeps on making money. I would insist upon a 10% return in return for a safe investment vehicle like savings accounts or money market accounts. bonds?
then it is party time. I would buy and restore an old pullman rail car, and help support amtrak. hook me up to the back of the train like a caboose and just pull me around the US and Canada; wherever I want to go.
I would make freeze frame a professional station.
I would help rebuild the city of new orleans.
I would buy a nice vacation home there, and one in florida, and one up in the mountains somewhere.
My folks would never have to work again. I would buy them their dream RV so they can just travel like they want to do.
My nephew would not have to worry about college.
I would be able to visit and vacation with people more often than I can now.

I have my powerball ticket, too. Boy, we're all contributing.
I would build a new school for my son's school. The old one is the one that my dad went to. They don't even have a regulation size basketball court. I would buy my mom the restaurant she's always wanted. She's the best cook ever. I would give money to my family. I would travel, travel, travel. I would remodel the old family farmhouse and bring it back up to snuff. It used to be a beautiful house with wrap around balconies on both levels. I would provide for my kids and niece and nephews' college funds. I would build a library for the county. The one we currently have is housed in the high school and is only accessible for a small amount of time and is very limited.
