Hypothetically...What would you...

In the wake of the recent disasters I got to thinking...

Assuming all the family members or pets in your home have been safely evacuated...

What is the one item you would grab on the way out of your home as you left during a fire or flood if you were in a position to...ie your most cherished possession or sentimentally valuable item

That's a tough one Dylan, I don't really know what I would grab, nothing really springs to mind at all, is that weird, you would think I would have one thing that I couldn't bear to leave behind but I don't!

I think I would grab pictures. You can pretty much replace everything else. But where there are pictures there are negatives. People lose both then they've lost their memories.

I agree with Ray on pictures.
A lot of memories and family history!
Other things could be replaced if and when we decided we really needed them.

yep, pictures. (Including my autographed ray charles one of course, and neil youg, keith richards, springsteen, and warren zevon ones.) But definately the pictures, save the history; carry it over into a better tomorrow.

Important documents and pictures. Assuming you've already got those, I'd say the chalice (sp?) that we drank from during our wedding ceremony.

Maybe I am having deja vu, but I thought you already asked this D. Anyway- I would take my hard drive, my jewelry box, and pictures.

I think the question this time is different because of the assumption that family and pets are safe.
I think all of us said our pets came first last time.

Not for sentimental reasons, but practical reasons, I'd grab my backpack. I have everything I need to run my hosting business in there. As long as I can get on the net somewhere, I can take care of business.

Because it's so important, I am VERY careful about where I take it and leave it. If I am in public, I don't let it leave my side. People tease me about my "baby" but they don't realize how important the information inside there is.

Well, I'd assume everyone would grab a bag and start filling it before they left. In addition to clothes, food and necessities, important stuff like Web's bag and paperwork, and pictures, what's that one other thing you'd bring?

Like many others, photo albums would be a priority. We foolishly keep our negatives in the house so a fire would destroy both the negatives and the pictures.

I've thought about that before . . . gathering all the negatives and taking them to the bank and putting them in the safe deposit box. One of those "someday" projects I hope I get done before its too late.

I'd consider shoes as clothing.

Yes, a penguin wearing shoes is certainly different . . . even stranger in my mind is that this penguin talks!

I have a couple of safety deposit boxes.  One in Wisconsin, and one in California.  I have cd's and dvd's of pictures on in there as well as legal documents, duplicates in each box.  I think I would just grab my computer, after the wife, kids and dog.

If that were my child, I would not want him to do it. I would encourage him to do something else that requires just as much determination. However, if my son had that disability (knock on wood) and he truly wanted to play football, I wouldn't stop until I found somewhere for him to play.
