I LOVED trick or treating - my favorite house was one in the next block over where the woman dressed as a witch to answer the door every year. I still remember vividly the year I realized she moved away...

I prefer the good miniature name brand chocolates! KitKats always seem to disappear first. I usually hand out a combination of Willy Wonka assortments and chocolate miniatures.

We're fortunate that our community always allows a couple hours of trick or treating on Halloween night, no matter what day it falls on. And even my tyke's school has a costume parade! I know a lot of schools frown on that now, but when they elected not to do it last year since Halloween fell on a Sunday, they were almost run out of town with parents complaining! They had to have it anyway!

I have cans of Asparagus at first.  Then I laugh at the kids' faces and give them the full size snickers, 3 musketeers, or mars bars.  I do keep a bowl of mixed candy of all the candy I hate, just in case the kids grate on my nerves.

I agree CP, I ought to keep a second bag of Dum-Dum lollipops on hand for the teenagers who show up with a pillowcase for candy and NO costume. I don't care if you're 74 and trick or treating, but if you show up without a costume... hm, maybe the asparagus is an even better choice, except then I might get my house egged....

I am anti-tootsie roll when it comes to halloween candy. The best are probably the Willy Wonka assortments. Since we never get kids at our house, I always try to give them something good. Last year I gave minature candy bars AND bags of chips. And I agree with Zim, I don't care how old you are, I'll give you candy as long as you're wearing a costume.

Last year I forgot to buy candy so we handed out the candy from the year before....

You really think I would do that??  We usually hand out mini snickers and milky ways.

We are handing out mainly name brand, fun size treats, mostly chocolate based

I really liked to get the homemade popcorns balls that one family gave out.
Of course that was years ago before all the scary stuff and we all knew everyone where we went.

We didn't have "blocks" as our town was very rural.
A couple of the Moms would get together to take each carload of kids around.
We had to use cars because of the distances between houses.
It usually was after dark, if not when we started then surely by the time we got done.

I remember there was one family whos Dad would not let the kids go out trick or treating but liked the rest of us to come by so we brought their treats with us. He would allow that.
I think his hang up was that it seemed like begging to him and he was a proud and hard working man.

That's why I have a sheperd/chow mix.  She guards the house well.  The police were called to my house once becasue the neighbor kids complained.  The officer said:  she has presence.  But she is very well trained and does not set one toenail off the property and awaits commands.  when the officer saw how well trained she was--he went back after the kids.

YOu are so right on the teens with pillow cases and no costumes!! "You must be the dork kids from the high-school hey?????"

This will be my first Halloween in my house, so I don't know what to expect. I know there are quite a few kids on the street across the way, but I don't know what else to expect. I just they all don't go out before I get home.

I will be handing out mainly the name brand, fun size treats. I bought a few bags last weekend. My mother always had things along the same line. There was the Hershey's, Snickers, Milky Way, 3 Muskateers or Kit Kats. I think I also bought a big mix bag with other sugar treats just in case there are kids that can't have chocolate or don't like it. At mom's we always gave out two choices. I will probably do the same.
