MP3 players

I'd like to get my husband a portable MP3 player, like an iPod, but I want to spend less than $100. Usually I can just Froogle it, but I'm getting too many accessories thrown into the mix along with those free offers. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get a cheap MP3 player, or maybe other brands I should look into?

I'm thinking about getting my wife one for her birthday too.

I've heard that the iriver players are pretty good. I don't know what they have for $100 though. I was looking at a 1 gig solid state one but then you get into that "well, for $50 more, I could get a 5 gig hard drive one that will hold a lot more songs."

So, I don't know other than I've heard the irivers are good for the money.

Looking on newegg.com now . . .

I see a 256meg iRiver for $86. 256 megs is not real big if you have your mp3's at a fairly high quality. I usually burn my mp3's at 160-192. At the 160 setting, it looks like the songs average about 4 megs each. At that setting, the 256 meg player would hold around 64 songs.

The 1 Gig player is $138.

The 5 Gig hard drive based ones start at $205.

I might get Mrs. Web the 1 Gig player. I know she'd like it if I got her that pre-filled with her Keith Urban CDs.

64 songs at about 4 minutes each is still over 4 hours of listening time, I think he could live with that. Can you upgrade the memory later, or are you stuck with what you get?

I think with these solid state ones you are stuck with that limit.

Depends on how much music your hubby likes.  My kids love music, as do I.  We all have ipods.  I have thought about buying a second ipod becasue my first if full.  My daughter hooks hers up to her stereo and plays her music that way and the headphones are always on.  If he is really into music, the ipod is worth the investment.

I would guess additional memory would be as much as buying another player anyway. Thanks for the tip though, I'll look into the iRiver ones...

I have a 20 gig Ipod, don't know what I would do with out it now, I want a new one now though, Apple have just brought out a new one that plays videos too, but if your wanting to spend around $100 then maybe a shuffle is the way to go.

I just ordered a Dell JukeBox today. They have the 5 gig one on sale for $150 until mid-Tuesday. I think that's a pretty good price for 5 gigs of storage.

I'm ripping cds to load it up with Mrs. Web's favorite CD's to give to her for her birthday. I hope she likes it.

That's a good price, but I don't have that much money to spend (we usually only spend about $50 on each other for Christmas, so I'm already going over that), and I don't think he'll need 5 gigs anyway. But, I will take a look on Dell's site to see if they have any other specials.
