Well the Brewers got within 75 miles of the World Series. Closer than the Yankees! How would you like to be a Cubs fan today? Your hated Southsiders are dancing in the street and you have to wait till next year. I bet they wanted to see Houston win more than Houston.
But Ruby, their "loser" instinct is why I love them.
Like I said, the last few years they have just been an unlikable team, but growing up as a kid I spent many summers watching them break the hearts of their fans.
The only two teams on TV every day were the Cubs and the Braves, but with the brick and the ivy and the tradition, it was only the Cubs that had any allure for me. I had my replica Cubs jerseys, and I'd watch every single game during summer break. The Cubs losing is like comfort food at this point. No matter whatever else is happening, I always know I can watch a Cubs loss. I like that. Don't take it away from me
Here's something cool.....my 19 year old daughter actually enjoyed watching the World Series. We watched three of the games together. She had never really cared for baseball before. I'm looking forward to the spring now. Maybe she'll want to go to a few Indianapolis Indians games next year.
I'm waiting for my 14 year old to realize I'm not the most stupid person she knows. I know one day we'll magically become smart.
To paraphrase Mark Twain, "When I was 16 my parents were the dumbest people I knew. When I was 21 I was amazed at how much they learned in five years."
Let's see. The last two years the NL Central has reigned. St. Louis went to the World Series and didn't win a game. This year Houston did the same thing. I see a pattern forming here. Maybe next year the Cubs or Brewers could do the same thing. Go far and lose big in four games. That way the Cubs could still be loveable losers.
