Well this is an interesting development. Jeremy, how do you feel about this turn?
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Brett Favre says he would be reluctant to return to Green Bay next season if Mike Sherman isn't still coaching the Packers. The Packers (1-6) are off to their worst start since 1991, which has led to speculation about Sherman's future.
In an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday, Favre said Sherman's status would play an important role in his annual decision to keep on playing or to call it a career.
"I don't think there's one specific thing that would make me say yeah or no. It's just a culmination of a lot of different things, that being one of them," Favre said. "Maybe you're on the verge of saying yeah, and then you say, 'You know what, do I really want to sit in meetings and have to learn something all over again?'
"That could be the straw that breaks the camel's back."
Well to be honest, I think all Favre did was seal Shermans doom.
I think Ted Thompson would prefer to just scrap them both and get his own guys in there. I honestly believe Thompson, coming in from outside the state last year, does not have that connection to either Sherman OR Favre, and is only looking at getting back to being a winner in the next 3 - 5 years.
The sad truth is, we won't be back to a Superbowl with Favre, even if he plays two more years. Thompson will probably think we'll just be further behind in the rebuilding process if he hangs on to them both.
HOWEVER, Favre has suggested retirement for six years now, always with another reason why this might be the right time. I think there's a good chance he'd come back regardless.
If I were a friend or family member I'd remind him he's still an excellent player, and there's no reason to walk away from the money he's guaranteed if he plays.
I'd also tell him to shoot for the all time touchdown record which he's now within reach of. I know stats mean nothing to him now, but when he's 60 they may mean something to him, they'll be his legacy.
Since Pittsburgh is playing with a backup to a backup quarterback this week, I might even pick Green Bay in the football pool. If I played one that is. With Pittsburgh not looking very good against Baltimore and a short week, Farve should be ready to tear them up.

Stop trying to be what you see. Be what you ought to be.
You look at al lthe coaches who coach in this league, and if they have any longevity...they invariably have a losing year.
I think Sherman is a good coach, despite a 1-6 record. Sometimes a coach just desn'tt have the horses. The Packers let part of their core go in free agency. They have 12 rookies on the club this year. They have lost 5 key contributors on offense.
I guess what am rambling about is that I think it would be a shame to fire Sherman after 1 bad year. He has had 5 winning seasons in a row. 4 playoff seasons in a row. 3 consecutive division championships.
Favre has earned the right to leave on his own terms...the ironic thing is, he is playing as well as he ever has...heck, he is passing to guys so low on our depth chart, I believe they are actually arena leaguers, and still getting 300 yards a game.
For Thompson to force Sherman out directly and Favre out indirectly would be a mistake. They both deserve better. Thompson should go before that happens.
