Last Monday before Christmas

That's right folks, less than one week to Christmas. Wow, this year went fast.

We are mostly ready. Still waiting on a couple gifts that are on their way in mail/UPS, but they should make it in plenty of time.

I thought I was feeling pretty good yesterday. I didn't play bass, but I went to church to run the live broadcast, etc. How hard can it be to sit in a chair? With about 1/2 hour to go, I hit a wall and crashed. I made it through, but I went home and slept for anohter hour before eating lunch.

I'm at the shop now. Just have to see how today goes.

Good day all.

Web, are you still in pain, or just wiped out from recovering? I hope you feel better soon!

I realized I forgot a couple people to buy a present for. The first is my sister's boyfriend. I probably don't have to get him anything, but it's obvious she's serious about him, so I'd like to. I've decided to get him a Leatherman tool, because I can get it cheap, and what guy wouldn't like that, right? So that should be coming in later this week.

The second is my step sister. I've only met her a couple times, she's seriously shy. Usually when I go over to my dad's, she won't even come out of her room. But since we'll be there on Christmas, I think I should get her something little, but I don't really know that much about her. I'm thinking of getting her a scarf. Is that lame?

Yesterday was just an overall "wiped out" tired feeling.

One area on my right side still hurts at random times. The other places only hurt if they get pushed on, but now they are getting itchy. It is still "uncomfortable" to stretch, take a deep breath, tie shoes, sneeze, etc. My belly is still pretty bruised and ugly. Well, I guess it was ugly before, so this just added bruising. With these five new holes plus the two colon surgery incisions, I'm thinking my chances of being a tummy model are pretty much over now.

I don't think a scarf is lame. It's better than a gift card.

Good day, all. Gonna be a short week for me... only working through Wednesday. I'm hoping it goes by quickly. We are supposed to be in for some bad weather tonight, maybe. Reading the NOAA website it looks like we may or may not get up to 2 inches of sleet and snow. Yay... my favorite. NOT!

I too have a few gifts left to buy. Mostly just gift cards. I mailed out some cards and gifts on Saturday, so hopefully those will make it in time. Got one ordered and sent directly to the recipient, got another being sent to me. Still need to sort out something for my mom. My brother wants us to take her to the Chiefs game this weekend. Not sure if that will go over well or not. I'd suppose that would depend on the weather.

Mz... I'd think a scarf would be fine. Definitely a bonus in the cold weather. I never know what to get my nieces, so I'm getting them gift cards, except for Addy... I got her an interactive stuffed dog toy from Leap Frog.

Web, I hope your recovery progresses nicely.

Hope everybody has a great day.

Oops, as soon as I said "its better than a gift card" Mema mentions she's got gift cards left to buy.

For the last couple years, it seems that in my family we've just been exchanging gift cards. I don't have a problem with gift cards, but when it gets to where we're just trading cards with each other, I start to feel like "What's the point?".

I feel the same way.  I mean, it's really like handing someone a $20, and then them handing you the $20 right back.  I'm not a big fan of giving gift cards for Christmas (birthdays I'm okay with).  This year, I made gift card holders, so at least there's a little personal touch in there.

Mrs Web was at the garden store picking up a few gifts this weekend. She came home and the conversation went like:

Her: "They have some really nice Christmas Cactus Plants there."
Me: "Oh? Did you get one for somebody?"
Her: "No, but I've been missing mine since I got rid of it. That is something you could get me for Christmas"
Me: "Ok, but do you want to pick it out, so you get the one you want?"
Her: "No, you can go back and get one."
Me: "Ok, I'll go take a look"

I'm perfectly happy to go to the store and get her a plant. BUT I'll bet you anything when I get one, her response will be "That's nice. Hmm, I would have thought you would have gotten that better shaped one that was back on the 3rd shelf though."

Anybody wanna take that bet?

I think my family finally concluded that this year. Sometimes we'd get something they wanted but it was easier to get a gift card. So this year we decided to buy one gift. It also helps with the money thing. You were supposed to put three things on the list. We pulled names out of a hat. You wanna bet there will still be giftcards handed out? At least my younger sister asked for a coat like my other sister has. That wasn't bad, I was told where it could be found and it was on sales so it was under the spending limit.

My family has suggested switching to gift cards and I said the same thing, what's the point. It's one thing for birthdays, but Christmas I'd rather not even bother exchanging. The fun of Christmas is supposed to be finding something special for the people you care about.

Though I think for most people it's just become a chore to rush out the last week and fill a price point for everyone.

althoguht I should say I think gift cards or lottery tickets are GREAT for rounding out a gift. I try to spend an equal amount every year on people, so I will often get a 5 or 10 dollar gift card from somewhere I know they like just to finish the total package.

I agree that gift card giving is kinda lame, but this does not stop me. Every time Christmas rolls around, my kids are broke... so they absolutely LOVE getting money. My mother is impossible to buy for... no hobbies, doesn't care about clothes, doesn't wear perfume, hates to cook, isn't a big music person... Gift card works there too. My sister is extremely picky... gift card. My brother is extremely broke... gift card. Nieces love to shop... gift cards.

Really, the only one I don't have some sort of feeling like I'm just giving up by going gift certificate is the BFF. I get him a "Great Night Out" gift certificate for the local dinner theater. It is my way of doing something nice for both him and his wife.
