Dylan how did it go?

D!

Please update us on today's recording session when you can! Are you the producer of the album too? How about mixing? Is this all stuff to be done at a future date; was today just getting it down on tape?

oh I didn't see that he was, I was just thinking if he visited later on or tomorrow, he'd let us know how it was on this thread.

Studio report day one

We had a good 6 hour session today...

The studio itself is on the 3rd floor, so the biggest hurdle is hauling all the amps, drums and guitars up 3 flights of stairs...

Everything was hauled and set up by 12:30 and then we started to get warmed up...we started recording around 12:45 and it was very interesting....while we were warming up, the studio engineer said we sounded awesome...the minute tape started rolling...we all tightened up.

The first song we worked on was "Shadow and Light" ... A real rocker!

It took over 2 hours to get suitable drum tracks and instrumentation for that song....and probably 12 takes....frustration can be contageous...Everone would take turns messing up at various parts of the song, but we finally got a good take.

We managed to get drum tracks and instrumentation for 6 more songs in the last 2 hours....so once the intimidation of rolling tape was overcome...we really found our groove. Those song titles in order of recording were:

Neon and Moonlight
Little Star
That We Might Be
Love On Hold
There To Ponder
Perpetual Rendevous
(Re recording this song from our earlier EP...which was a demo I did alone in the studio)

We still need to tweak the instrument tracks and do final vocal tracks and harmony tracks for these 7 songs.

Tomorrow we will try and get 2 to 3 more songs started.

Those titles probably will be:
Late Night Drive
Zero to Sixty
Glass Half Full

John Boyd, the other guitar player and I generally wind up co producing...but our engineer is always a good sounding board.

I think we haad a good start....

We will keep you posted

That sounds so awesome Dylan!

Thanks for the report. It's cool to see what kind of work goes into a project like this.

We are shooting to finish it by the end of February...maybe sooner...

The holidays will slow things down alot. But We may catch a wave and finish it sooner.

Studio...day 2

We arrived about 1:00pm

We were hoping to get at least 3 more songs partially done today and we didnt leave the studio disappointed.

These were the songs we hoped to do:

Glass Half Full
Late Night Drive
Zero To Sixty

We wound up doing those and a little more in the amount of time we had money budgeted for...

Too Soon Too Little Too Late

And another take of

Shadow and Light (This was our best take)!!

We have 5 song we want to do yet with this part of the project....

Girl From Oz
Thoughts of Yesterday
Two To Tango
Give me A Ring
Mind of Its Own
We need to learn these as a band and polish them before recording

We decided we are going to repackage those first 4 songs alot of you are familiar with and release 2 albums worth of material.

We are also going to do 11 additional songs in a semi live recording environment.

This is going to be a very aggressive recording year for Late Night Drive...

In a side note...Our Web Site will be going active in the next two weeks.

Thank you for the well wishes and support from my Freeze Frame Friends.

We'll keep you posted!
