Weekend Photos

Most of you probably saw these on FaceBook, but here's some pics from this weekend anyway.

This is my brother's dog "Ruby". She loves to ride on the 4 wheeler to go check the cows. My brother said that a couple weeks ago, he forgot to put the 4 wheeler in the shed and the next morning it was all covered with frost which made the seat slick. they were out checking the cows and he looked back to see something and there was no Ruby. She had slipped off somewhere out there in the pasture and he didn't know it. He went back the direction he came from and he found her pretty tired, but she was trotting her way back home.

This is my brother. They have two 4 wheelers. Logan and I were just fallowing him around on the 2nd one. He was even nice to me. I was driving the new one with power steering.

We were headed back home down the road. I really like this shot. What you don't see is me driving 40mph behind him with my left hand on the right handle bar (to run the throttle) while wrangling my DSLR with a long zoom lens in the right hand trying to take a photo.

My boy is not much of a risk taker. My brother was trying to get him to drive but he didn't want to. My brother got a little stern with him that he need to do it so he finally gave in. The next few are of them. Logan didn't want to drive, but after he did, he thought he was pretty cool.

The next few are some shots of calves hanging out.

This old one-rooom school is only about 1/3 mile from my brother's house. You can see it out their living room window. It was never in use as long as I can remember, but my mom went to school here a few years before the new school was built a few miles away. It has been standing here a long time, but recently, the person that owns the land now, has let his cows get up around it and as they try to get close to it to use it for shade, they have worn down the ground around it and the foundation is finally giving away. It won't be standing too much longer now that the foundation is crumbling.

And, this is where I went to school K through 6th grade. My mom went here after it became the "new" school (it's been remodeled a few times since), my brother and I both went here, and my brother's kids both went to school here. They didn't have enough kids to continue, so it closed about a year ago. They sold the building and it is privately owned now. I think the current owner is planning on converting it into a house, but I don't think they have done much with it yet. I heard that shortly after it sold, it was broken in to and vandalized. The walls and ceiling are all wood and I heard it got spray painted up pretty bad. There was another family bidding on it when it sold at auction. The kids of the other family bidding on it were accused of the vandalizing, but we haven't heard any more past that.

So, there ya go . . . a few shots from our afternoon at my brother's.

Cool pics!

I've said it before, but really, you should think of submitting these to some photo sites. I'm waiting for the day when I can ask to use one in something for one of my customers. The only thing stopping me is that I haven't gotten anything to use them for. I just get brochures that need pictures of people in business suits, booorring!

I was watching a photography channel on YouTube a few days ago and the guy was talking about selling your stuff on stock photo sites. He said you used to be able to make a little money at it but not any more. He said the only people making money now are ones that are doing just what you described . . . people in business situations. He said that with that, it helps to be quite exaggerated shots with things like smashing office equipment, "OMG" situations, etc. He said if you're willing to purposely work with models and set up those situations, you can make a little money, but just sharing your "everyday" stuff doesn't sell much now.
