Tooz Day

Hey ya.

It was not a pretty morning around our house. More anger, blame, and resentment.

I talked to my insurance agent to get quotes on health insurance to run numbers so we can see if Mrs Web can quit her job and we go it on our own or not.

To exactly replace what we have now with Blue Cross, it would be $740/month.

The same Blue Cross plan with a $1,500 deductible instead of $1,000, it would be $679.

If we would go to an HSA plan with a $3,000 deductible, it would be $582.

If you are generally healthy, the HSA plan is the way to go, plus you can put money into a health savings account to use for medical expenses and it is tax deductible. Every little bit helps.

Insurance is expensive.

Afternoon all. Another day another bunch of tax returns. If I can finish these OH returns today (I think I was down around 30 remaining), that'll only leave me the KY ones. And there are fewer of those. I'm doing what I can now (and during the week) to avoid having to come in on Saturday or even having to take the work home with me. I was hoping to have almost everything complete so I can start month/quarter end on Thursday.

Those insurance numbers have only gotten worse in preparation of Obamacare. And employers are passing more of the cost on to the employees.

Good day, all. It's another day of living the dream, as we like to say. (Note: nightmares are technically dreams too.)

I lucked out on the insurance front this year. My employer is paying 100% of my premium. Of course in the exchange, all of my co-pays went up. Still, it is a little more money in the paycheck.

Not a lot else going on around here. The new bosses have sent a few e-mails, but nothing major.

Still trying to get things going toward getting the new guttering on the house. I did install a screen door for the new patio door over the weekend. It went surprisingly well for me.

Ah well... Tuesday on, everyone. I hope the remainder of the day is a pleasant experience for all.

Good day all.

I've had an interesting week so far.

My car's been having trouble starting for a while, but it got significantly worse last weekend, so I took it in yesterday. Turns out that my power steering fluid hose has been rubbing on the injection module, causing it to leak ever so slowly, and short out the module. So $655 and a day later, my car is now fixed.

I also had a doctor's appointment this morning for a physical. My doctor wants me to have my cholesterol (since my mom has high cholesterol and she's pretty young), blood sugar (diabetes runs on both sides of my family for multiple generations), and thyroid checked. So I need to go have some blood work done.

I know I'm gambling by not having health insurance, but when looking at the costs, it just makes more sense for me. I got a quote on being added to the plan they have here at work (not employer-sponsored, the whole cost would be on me), and I'm young and healthy (at least until I get the blood work back), so I'd be lowering everyone else's premiums. It would be over $100 A WEEK for just me. And that was a couple years ago. So Web, the $740 doesn't sound like too bad of a deal for the three of you compared to the quote I got. I can totally understand the tension and anger though, although probably not directed in the right place.

The reason I haven't gotten insurance is because I'm in the group that health insurance companies make tons of bucks from. In the past 3 years, I've been to the doctor 3 times, twice for a physical and once for strep. I just paid $140 for the physical, and I'm expecting to pay a couple hundred bucks for the blood work. Even when I had the allergy work done, it cost me somewhere around $1300 for the whole thing. I'd pay a heck of a lot more than that for health insurance. And I'd still have to pay copays and such. Since I don't have a kid, and Brian is covered by the VA, it makes more sense for me to put my money in savings and earn a bit of interest.

So yeah, I've been screwed in several different ways today, kind of both figuratively and literally. Fuzzy, maybe I should do those tax returns for you while I'm at it.

I understand, MZ. Insurance is very expensive. Women are more expensive then men to insure too because of all the extra female parts.

I feel like I'm generally healthy too but I had no idea I was going to need my gal bladder out. That is a "minor" outpatient surgery now, and that was over $11,000. I didn't even spend one night in the hospital. The ER visit before that was not included in the $11k. It's crazy what that stuff costs.

Oh yeah, I know I'm gambling with health insurance, just hoping I don't get really sick. I will buy health insurance someday, but with the current healthcare climate, I'm deciding to wait and take my chances. But that's just me, I'm not insuring a whole family. You guys definitely need it.

I'm getting close. I have about ten OH returns remaining. But my hand has had enough. My writing is starting to look sloppy. Think I'll take a short break and catch up on a few emails and things I need to print. I will finish these returns before I go home tonight. It shouldn't be another 12 hour day today.

I guess I shouldn't have followed up on a few outstanding things. I found two more returns that I need to file. :/

Now I'm down to 10 returns again but it also after 5. Hmmm. I still think I can keep this to a 10 hour day. Ready? Go!

Better to find them now than later.

The 10 hr day plan didn't work out so well. I did finish all the returns. But of course then technology chose to fight me about some stuff. I had files I couldn't make PDF. The program lied to me. The the copier didn't want to scan my big pile of stuff. The coiper did get swatted with papers, almost got my foot and was close to geting a bullet.
