Today is the 25th anniversary of the murder of John Lennon. A sad and tragic loss to the world. I was just a kid when he died, but I still love the music. Here's to hoping John is rockin' on in the hereafter!!

Yeah good point MM, I was going to mention the anniversary myself but hadn't got round to it. I wasn't even born when he died but the music of the Beatles and his solo stuff has been in my life for as long as I can remember. A true legend.
I was watching Monday Night Football in the dorm when they annouced he had been shot. I think it was a while later that they said he died. Of course the news flew around the dorm and Beatles and Lennon's music was all over the place. Everyone was bummed for days.
I'll never forget when John Lennon died. I was 13, a huge Beatles fan all my life. I'm the youngest of a large family (8 kids), so I heard a ton of Beatles since I was a kid. A childhood story for my family is that I knew all the words to "Hey Jude" - end to end - when I was 3.
John Lennon was my favorite Beatle. I think it was the honesty of his stuff. I was devastated when he was shot. I found out at the school bus stop the morning after it happened. I remember saying to the person who told me "nah, you're making that up." Like someone would do that? Hey I was a kid.
I just remember walking around stunned for days after that. Someone who espoused peace so earnestly cut down like that. In hindsight, it seems that's what's happened to a lot of the people who have spoken out for peace (Ghandi, Martin Luther King, etc.). I didn't see that at the time and it was the first time I lived through a figure like that dying. It was major.
I remember crowds gathered in Central Park, people sobbing in public. It was tragic and there was a major public outpouring of emotion over it. There was a minute of silence the Sunday (I think he was killed on a Tuesday) following that, at Yoko's request, me and several of my siblings participated in that.
I've requested several songs in tribute to John Lennon today. I can't believe it's been 25 years. This still gets to me. Damn.
Julian isn't dead!!! Oh my God, let's not start sad rumors, here.
